Settle down, Beavis. I am PO'd too, but we don't know what happened. It may be perfectly justifiable to suspend Willis. That being said, Bennett is responsible for these kids behavior, not just their punishment.

I would think most anything bad enough to justify this would end in "SMU QB Willis Arrested" not a team rules violation. We shall see. It had better not be something stupid.

Yeah, if this is "Justin Willis was caught sneaking out of his girlfriend's sorority house after curfew," I am going to vomit.

I disagree. I think you have to have punishments that impact the player and the team. If you don't, then there is no point in having team rules. A player is part of a team and his actions on and off the field impact the team. Players have responsibilities to themselves and to their teammates. Disiplinary actions should stress the point that you are not just hurting yourself, but your teammates too.
All that being said, it sucks that Willis is out for at least this game.

I have got to go with Bennet on this one. If what Willis did was worth a suspension, then so be it.
My gut feeling tells me it is nothing serious since he is in El Paso with the team, maybe a curfew violation or something. IF Bennet says that if you do X then Y will happen and Willis did X then Bennet has no choice, he has to treat everyone on the team the same.
"Indefinately" doesn't scare me, he could reinstate him tomorrow, or during the game, or next week. Hopefully, this is just a minor bump.

Anybody remember what Bennett left Bartel at home for a couple years back? Curfew violation?
Oops. Oh well, we can still all be pleasantly surprised.
But maybe that rumor monger was only half right, since there was nothing about a receiver in the coverage (we'll get to that in the morning). Of course, he'll have nobody to throw to him now....

I think Bartel was slapped for participating in intramural ball. Oh, and also sucking.

Was that really necessary?

Obviously, it sounds like the coaching staff learned about this on Thursday, probably did some digging on what happened and made the decision.
I'm one for hoping our program reaching new heights, but I cannot tolerate actions by players when they put their agenda ahead of the team. Small or large, Bennett and his staff made a good call.
I'm glad Justin's here. We'll probably have a tough go in El Paso. Maybe he'll learn from this. Or he better learn from this. But that's life, and we're just going to have to deal with it.
Now, the onus is on Willis to rebuild the trust and confidence his teammate have in him. Willis let his program down.

How can you say it's a good move when we don't know what the issue is?
PhirePhil, where are you? Looks like you're about to leave the holding pattern.

Because I'm going to trust their judgment on it. They certainly had enough to make this call, and that's good enough for me. I have no sympathy for Justin on this.
