STOP BASHING WILLIS

Postby stangsnumber1 » Sat Oct 07, 2006 9:36 am

i am sick of all you guys sitting here critizing the team, right when you hear something just because of the past when most of you don't even know them individually. this is a whole new year for SMU.. and i am pretty sure that this team has shown you alot of change over the past couple of games. yeah some of them do make mistakes but that's what we are here for. God did not make anyone perfect. We make mistakes and we learn from them. Yes, what you all have heard about Willis is believable but you most certainly do not know the whole story, and just like some say.. "you might never know the whole story".. so instead of sitting here wasting your time bashing him.. Just be praying for a victory tonight, and for that He will be back next week.

Who's "bashing" Willis on here. If bashing Willis means saying a d-1 quarterback should not be at a party on Thursday and getting in a fight under any circumstances, then I'm guilty as charged.

I don't think "bash" is the right word to describe what people are saying about Willis. I think everyone on this board has done something in college they could have or did get disciplined for and are just expressing disappointment that our star QB is suspended before a critical game on the road. Willis is, what, 19 or 20 and in college. Of course he is going to do stupid things. It is up to the coaches to advise him of what is acceptable behavior and it is up to Willis to live by the rules. He'll learn from this and will hopefully avoid this kind of crap in the future.

Go Ponies.

The injured 5th string QB throws a harder ball than Wills.

Really? Who is the fifth-string quarterback?
Willis, Slater, Johnson, Rhodes .... Phillips is a tight end.
Besides, you're right that Willis doesn't throw it hard enough to punch it through a brick wall, but if velocity was all that matters, we'd be 0-5. I'd rather have the 3 wins he's led us to.

Willis has done a great job the last three games. SMU has not seen offensive production like this since the early 80's. As long as Willis/others learn from this situation, Willis will have great record at SMU.

I am pretty sure no one is bashing Willis. We are all just highly disappointed with what has happenend to the young fellow.

Why would we bash our team leader and possibly our feature when it comes to SMU football.

We just want the kid to be fine and for him to learn from his mistakes.

When you are a STUDENT-ATHLETE you have more than one responsibility and P.B. tells his kids that their actions speak louder than words and that they need to stay focused at all times.

Willis will learn and he will recover but no one is bashing him.

Agreed. He F-ed up.

If I got in trouble for all the stuff I did at his age, I .... would have been kicked off the team long before anyone ever saw me throw a pass. The difference is I wasn't on a team.

If the infraction is as it has been reported, this should be a one-game suspension. I fully expect that whenever he is reinstated, Slater will start and Willis will have to earn his starting job back, and he'd damn-well better walk the straight and narrow from hear on out.

I just want to make sure everyone is clear...

I AM BASHING WILLIS!!!

Maybe while he's sitting on his @ss in a hotel room in El Paso, while his team is getting their @sses kicked, he can grow up and realize if someone is "picking" on you you dont have to act like a baby and start a fight.

Why bash him?...he is young and everyone makes mistakes....

And we dont know if the "picking on" rumor is true, so dont jump to conclusions.

Look...im a forgiving guy...but these football egos only respond to heavy criticism. The guy not only needs to be penalized as is the case, but he also needs some heavy criticism. It will only make him a better player. Regardless of what happened it was a huge mistake and he let all of his players down and a fanbase that doesn't need to be diminished any further. If he can't take the criticism then he couldn't start at Nicholls State.

So, hammer the guy! When he apologizes and comes back and gets us to a bowl I will be right there with everyone else singing praises. But for now....Get a clue kid!!!!!
