Real simple, and born of twenty years experience since the death penalty days. Have no expectations of this program on the field. If they win, you will be pleasantly surprised. If they lose, you will not be disappointed.

It really is sad that I have had to adopt this tact, but it's the only way I've been able to keep coming out.

Maybe there would be less disagreement on this board if had to state our class year...then our personal expectations would be put in perspective.

that's the truth. See jtstang enjoyed his Homecoming at a Soccer Game on the futbol pitch during his Senior Year. Therefore, he has little expectations.

You claim to have no expectations jt, but in reality you do...you expect a loss for every game which would explain the "pleasantly surprised" aspect of winning and the no disapointment if we lose since that was your expectation. So fess up...you do have expectations...they just aren't great expectations. Hope that isn't the way you approach the rest of your life.

Class of 1981.....so, I have seen some good fball in my day. First game I ever saw was the 1968 Astro Bluebonnet Bowl....I am one of those strange folks around here who do not think that the SMU football sun rose and set on Ramon Flanigan, etc., etc.....I am afraid that most on this board have little or no historical perspective of who we are, where we have been, and what is "possible"....the last 20 years, with very , very few exceptions, has been painful. I am tired of the circus....I am tired of losing...I refuse to sunshine, the "Willis situation" is par for the the last 20 years course....I am off to Ireland on Sunday for some golf / Guiness, maybe I can find a USA Today on Monday over there with some good news, like a W over UTEP, unfortunately, I sort of doubt it.....FORE! CHEERS!!

class of '74 and grew up in Dallas as a fan of SMU and the "expansion" Cowboys. Was a neighbor of Tom Landry, Jim Meyers (Cowboys' OL coach) and Hayden Fry; played ball with Hayden's sons Randy and Zach and always admired "Kitty" Landry (Tom's fine looking daughter my same age). When you've experienced the good times, you can't help but long for a return to those "good old days" when SMU occasionally competed with the best of 'em...and people actually came out to watch.

I admire your loyalty, though, JT. You've known nothing but bleak moments but still enjoy the contest. That's the way South Carolina's fans are...they pack the house over here but most go for the tailgate and game day experience. The attitude has been "if we win the game, that's just a bonus". I think it has frustrated Spurrier who this week asked the fans to "please don't applaud us when we lose".

I wish SMU had more fans to applaud them when they win

pk I've met you and I respect you but you are just wrong. If I expected a loss every week from my favorite college football team I would stop caring at all.

Class of 1978 - Both parents 1950 - Brother 1982 - father played with Doak at HP, sat next to him at graduation, mother taught at SMU 50-55 and again in 67, they are both deceased and the SMU Seal in on their headstone. We watched LeVias play in the 68 Bluebonnet Bowl. Young Alum during the Pony Express, watched every down, saw the Miracle on 4th Street in Lubbock, in person. Survived the hottest football game in history the day that Ford Stadium opened.

Still attending, Still a Mustang, always have been, always will be, you either are a Mustang or you are not, either because you choose to be, or because you graduated from there, you never hear a Longhorn or a Sooner or an Aggie give up on their team, no matter what happens, in fact a Longhorn gets more obnoxious when they are losing.

What SMU needs is fewer fair weather fans, and more true MUSTANGS !

You need to add a smilely face to represent quitting on the team after NTSU and then having the audacity to apply at TCU.

Your loyalty is unquestionable. However, I was at that game and it felt like cold storage compared to last year's game in Hell against A&M
