Saw this in the on-line version of the Daily Campus:

Basketball tryouts complete

It was the first time SMU had held open tryouts for the school's basketball team. Twenty-six guys showed up for the initial tryout on Sunday Sept. 17 and 12 finished the tryout on Thursday.

Assistant Coach Lance Irving was in charge of the tryout. It wasn't the first time that Irving had held an open tryout, but it was the first time he had been somewhere that called the kids back a second time.

The second day gives them an "opportunity to see what it's like to play at the next level," according to Irving.

The tryout consisted of passing drills, shooting drills and small scrimmages. The tryout lasted one hour. Irving expects a decision to be made by Saturday.

By the way: it's Lance IRVIN, not Irving

Successful walk-ons will be notified next week before the kickoff dinner.

we are all on pins and needles waiting to hear who will round out the practice squad - and maybe someday get a huge ovation for playing the last 30 seconds of a blowout win against who? U. in his senior year.

I remember debating whether to serve in that same capacity when I was at SMU. Gotta have enough bodies to practice. Those guys will earn my respect

Sounds like 2-3 players have been added to the squad.
