I wish the Willis family could see...

Postby GoMustAAngs2007 » Wed Oct 11, 2006 3:17 pm

...the amount of support for Justin among the student body. We returned today from Fall Break (Monday and Tuesday off) and there was lots of chatter around campus about when he would be back on the field. A Facebook group called "Let Willis Play" already has over 300 members.

While I know the Willis family has been upset about SMU's handling of the whole situation, I think they would find it encouraging that so many students care about Justin's status as both a student and a football player.

Would anyone here on Ponyfans be interested in buying a "Free Willis" T shirt on the boulevard this weekend?

Considering the sensitive nature of the issue, and the fact that the other guy (and/or his friends and family) might be out there .... no.

Obviously the vast majority of people on this board -- the SMU ATHLETICS fan site -- want to see Willis play again, and soon. But this period of time also has to have been extremely tough on Beard and his family, so I would say such a shirt is out of line.

Just my opinion, of course.

Good lord, nothing like a little football crisis to bring the newbies out in full force.

I checked the memberlist just now. There are 43 new members in the last week. That's roughly 1 out of every 60 members total.

Print the T-shirts, I will buy several and I'm sure others will too. Hopefully we'll all be wearing them when we watch him lead the team on the field through the giant helmet.
