SMU MEN’S BASKETBALL ON NATIONAL TV SCHOOL RECORD FIVE TIMES IN 2006-07
DALLAS (SMU) --- The SMU Men’s Basketball team has a school record five nationally televised games during the 2006-07 regular season. The Mustangs play four games on CSTV and one game, at Memphis, on ESPN2. The Mustangs’ games on CSTV include TCU, both match-ups with Houston and the home game against Memphis. The Mustangs play the first three televised games on the road before playing the final two at home in Moody Coliseum.
Head Coach Matt Doherty and his inaugural Mustang squad make their season television debut in a visit to Metroplex rival TCU on Thursday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. That is followed by a trip to face the Houston Cougars on CSTV on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 5 p.m. The Mustangs move over to ESPN2 for an 11 a.m. tip when visiting defending Conference USA champion Memphis at the FedEx Forum on Saturday, Feb. 3. The Ponies then get a pair of home games on CSTV, hosting Houston on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. and Memphis on Saturday, March 3 at 8:30 p.m.
“It is exciting that SMU has five nationally televised games this season,†states Doherty. “This shows that the nation recognizes that SMU basketball is on the rise.â€
Conference USA has more than 40 nationally-televised men’s basketball games this season as part of a national package that includes games on CBS, CSTV, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and Fox Sports Net (FSN). CSTV is available in Dallas on DirecTV channel 610 and Dish Network channel 152. Contact your local cable provider for more information on how to get these channels.
The men’s basketball team will host its inaugural Tip-Off Dinner at the Radisson Hotel Central Dallas this evening, Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. Former Mustang All-American Jon Koncak will serve as the keynote speaker and coach Doherty will give insight into his opening season on the Hilltop. The team will also have a controlled scrimmage on Friday, Oct. 13 beginning at 9 p.m. in Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs will also open practice to the public at Moody Coliseum on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. The Mustang football squad hosts Marshall on Saturday afternoon at Gerald J. Ford Stadium at 2 p.m., so fans can arrive early to check out Mustang basketball.
