Easy...a Big City near by.

Wrong, sunshine, page 1 of Sports day II

Well, well, well...maybe they're finally starting to get the message over there at the Bevo Corp.!
However, I forked over the sheckles for a copy of the DMN today and here's how the front page of jt's favorite rag really reads:
As I predicted, top story is "OU's Peterson Done for Season" along with photo of him breaking his collarbone. Below that is larger photo of Texas A&M defeating #19 Missouri, 25-19 with article; on the right is the story "SMU Is Gaining Control" and at the bottom of the fold is "Baylor Strikes First - But Has No Answer for Texas".
I was wrong about the placement of SMU coverage on the inside. Instead of page 3 or 4 it's on PAGE SEVEN! Big photos of Willis & Lowery, too. Headlines: "Goat Cleans Up Mess" (about Lowery) which is actually "SMU Briefs"; "QB Puts 'Mistakes' Behind Him"; and "SMU Seizes Its Chances to Score" (continuation of front page story).
Now...did anyone else notice the FULL PAGE Tom Thumb grocery store advertisement on the BACK PAGE of Sports Day (section CC, page 10)?
Photo was taken at Gerald J. Ford Stadium with the scoreboard in the backgound with folks on the stadium floor representing Tom Thumb and Dr Pepper, sponsors of the 'Breakfast with a Champion' featuring Don Shula. However, look at the photo. NO ONE REPRESENTING SMU!!!!! Little kids wearing Texas A&M t-shirts and cheerleader outfits!!!! For a school that wants to 'control' its marketing, this is hypocritical.
Who allowed this? Ridiculous. If SMU is going to let a multi-billion dollar organization like Dr Pepper or Tom Thumb or Capital One to use its facilities to promote an event, then BY GOD MAKE SURE THAT SMU IS REPRESENTED PROPERLY!!!!!

Do you think the Aggie$ would allow a photo to be taken at Kyle Field with people wearing SMU (or any other school's) attire? Do you think the 'Horns would allow a photo to be taken on Jamail Field at DKR Stadium with people wearing SMU (or any other school's) attire? Do you think the Red Raiders would allow a photo to be taken at Jones SBC Stadium with people wearing SMU (or any other school's) attire?
Of course not.
SMU needs to be the same way. If SMU is going to allow corporations with LOTS of $$$ to use its facilities to promote their events, charities, companies, etc. then SMU needs to have better control. It's all about IMAGE and MARKETING!

Before you whine about the coverge at least read it. That goat reference was about Lowery making up for his faskmask call by his three int's. For godsake, it's one thing to complain about the news coverage, it's another thing entirely to complain about it with any comprehension of it.

"Willis" instead of "Lowery" is hardly a typo. You were just too busy whining to pay attention to what you wanted to write.

Nope. Typed 'Willis' instead of 'Lowery'. Yeah, I made a mistake. But I knew the article was about Lowery.

First of all - do you really think anyone would want to take a picture on Jones SBC field? But it strengthens your point - we have a top notch, beauctiful stadium and we are doing nothing to promote it. I too was shocked at seeing this ad that there was not a single mention/refernce to SMU on the entire page - no kids in SMU gear, nor anything on the jumbotron. Our marketing people just dropped the ball.

Okay. Bottom line, SMU game story was page 1, above the fold and you are still [deleted] about it.

I don't understand the constant complaining about the DMN's lack of respect or lack of SMU coverage. Maybe someday we will figure out a way to get 30,000 fans in to Ford on gameday to watch a CUSA contest. If that was happening consistently, SMU just might be newsworthy. The lack ot attendance at SMU games tells the media all they need to know. Why devote a lot of coverage to something nobody cares about? SMU can't even get a majorty of current and former students interested in what is going on at Ford and Moody, much less the casual DFW sports fan.

Bottom line: I was right about where the Peterson story would run, too.
The DMN is getting better with its coverage of SMU. There's always room for improvement. And The Greek Tragedy is in there hustling to get stories and she's to be commended for her efforts.
How much Bevo stock do you own again?
