Letter to Steve OrsiniDear Steve:
We obviously need to get some more people in the stands at the remaining home games. We are actually getting some good press in the Dallas Morning News and I actually hear people talking about SMU again. Doesn't it make sense for you and Coach Bennett to, as soon as possible, send a letter to every person in the Mustang Club, every person that is a member of the alumni association, and if possible, every person that lives in the Park Cities to talk about how we now have an entertaining team that is competing for a conference championship, and we will give them four tickets (first come, first serve) to the remaining three home games. This will get some people there and may encourage them to come back next year. I am going to email him this same email. Anybody want to join me and send him the same email?
I'd give them away if I had extra tickets. Unfortunately SMU seems uninterested in anyone not paying full price. We ought to have $1 tickets for all of our remaining games, especially UAB.
If you can get a group to go, the Mustang Club can hook you up. We got about 75 tickets for employee's of Special Delivery for the Marshall game. One of the guy's brought his sons pee wee football team. Send out a mass e-mail at your company about the tickets, and include the 'Vard experience. We have done this the last few years, and probably 20 to 22 new season ticket holders have been created. You would be surprised that with a little effort, and stepping out of your comfort zone, we can make a difference in this place that we love. Enthusiasm is contagious...spread it!
Please keep your I'm so much better than you attitude to yourself...spare us, please The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
What's the matter with the letter? He's showing Steve-O that he's encouraged by the Ponies' recent success, and he's encouraging more marketing and enthusiasm from the school. When's the last time we had a winning record in mid-October? There is absolutely no reason NOT to be excited. Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!
....do you think Orsini needs some accountant at TI telling him "we need more fans in the stands"? ...... To send letters to all the Mustang Clubbers and Park Cities residents?? "Hey Orsini, get with it!"??? It's so freakin' weak, I can hardly stand it....maybe I should stay off this board, for my own sainity, but it is so entertaining, it has become amusement....I am really glad SMU fball has some "mo", finally....but, 2/3rds. of you guys act like the guy who just got laid for the first time, pretty sophmoric....as they say, let the coaches coach, let the AD, AD, and let the marketers market, and I am sure when the DMN has some valid reason to promote the heck out of SMU (Ie: it will increase revenues), they will...in the meantime, all these "marketing suggestions", and "open letters to the AD". make me want to vomit.....GO 8-4 SMMU!!!!
All I see is a big clump of over-punctuated fragment sentences. Not the most professional way to get a point across...not that you have one anyone cares about.
I appreciate your commits to AD Orsini Pony Fan because it is not just about how Orsini plans to market our program next year when he has more time but we need more butts in the seats now to support this 2006 football team.
just being a Devil's Advocate but why should SMU be giving away free tickets to season ticket holders now when I've been assured that attendance will increase after we beat up a schedule ull of powder-puffs-or at least trying to beat up on powder-puffs in the case of NTSU. This was the plan all along wasn't it. That paying customers would come in late October and November if we were playing for bowl games. Now I'm fully in favor of promotions but giving away tickets so people who should be supporting the university anyway makes no financial sense.
If you give away tickets to people who aren't going to pay for them anyway, you aren't out anything. Maybe they'll at least enjoy it, and start paying for tickets later when we have enough interest to stop giving them out for free.
Letters to Orsini are fine and good. But he can't do it all himself. For instance he might tell you that if every person who came last weekend brings a friend, we're looking at 20,000 instead of 10,000. Until we become a consistent winner, which I am hopeful we are on the path to becoming, the fans themselves can do more than Orsini can to increase attendance. Ask not what your athletic dept. can do for you; ask what you can do for your athletic dept.
