Marketing Plans for UAB Boulevard/Game

Postby tmustangp » Sun Oct 15, 2006 11:25 pm

Ok.. i have heard rumors... what is the marketing department planning for the Halloween ESPN2 game?

-rumors
-all classes after 12 pm are being cancelled? True/False?
(only rumor i have heard)

Marketing plans:
-does anyone know what is going?
-Will there be trick or treating from tent to tent?
-is there a 2 for 1 ticket special?
-is everyone encourage to dress up for tailgating? I know my tent is...

can someone get this thread to the marketing department and have them tell us what is planned so we can get the word out...

Classes are not cancelled, we (students) got an email a few weeks ago saying that there would be no changes to the university class schedule. The only way a class would get cancelled is if the professor decides to cancel the class on their own.

As I have been told the Athletic department pushed for the class cancellation pretty hard but was rebuffed by the University. I wonder how many of our marketing woes are due to lack of enthusiasm the rest of the University has for the athletic department.

you don't need rumors. Its 2 weeks before the game and THERE IS NO PROMOTION. Instead, I think we ought to all get together at MM1965's house on a Saturday Night and hang banners, draw spooky posters, with ballons, scary pumpkins, and dress up in colorful Halloween costumes and have the kids run through a haunted house with candy and popcorn for all. How is anyone supposed to know this? I'm already hearing ads on the radio for some haunted houses in Lewisville and Mesquite and Kaufman .... someone needs to get the word out about this!

We should get special glow in the dark helmets and then play this game in the dark.

Throw in glow-in-the-dark footballs and referee shoes, and I think we officially have a worthy gimick. Make the yard lines and sidelines have blinking lights every 5 seconds only for some guidance.

Make the refs dress up Jason, Michael Myers and Freddy Kruger and have them carry real 10-inch knives. That way when we get a bad call, we can really scream, "Hey, ref. You're killing us.''

Yeah, I guess the glowing football would be pretty important. For added spookiness, we could also light the south endzone on fire again.

I remember watching a band that had glow-in-the-dark shoes and marched a portion of their show in the dark. I don't think our band could do that, but it looks pretty freakin' awesome.

Peruna2001, the band was considering doing the halftime show in the dark, but I can't remember why it was nixed. The band director was pretty psyched about it.

probably because halftime is about 20-30 mins long and it takes the lights a long time to heat up and get bright again

I would think the problem would be that in order to make it dark you would black out the entire stadium which does not make for a good half time break for fans and especially little kids getting lost in the dark and being trampled by people moving to better seats. Also, we may have those type of lights that take 30 minutes or so to get back up to full force after being turned off.
