Handed out 100 cowbells last game. Unlike the first game I handed them out at, this round of 100 was gone well before kickoff. It is great fun to look around and actually see people ringing them.

I plan to continue to buy bells, but would like to increase the number that I hand out. This is where you guys come in...

Anybody interested in throwing in for some cowbells? Any amount would be appreciated.

The cowbells were great for my kids and friends until we reached the gate where the cowbell police told us they could not enter the stadium. His exact words were "No cowbells and no air horns." We had to leave them in the gift shop until after the game. Must have been that gate only as I heard plenty of them around the stadium. The kids were pretty disappointed.

Regardless, thanks for those, rjhiii. It was nice meeting you and your father.

smooboy - It was good to meet you as well. Feel free to stop by the tailgate anytime.

As for not being allowed in the stadium, I have heard some other people complaining of that as well. I continue to sneek mine in, so I have yet to get stopped. I did have a friend that was stopped and he just went to another gate where they didn't seem to care.

I will refer everyone to the various threads describing how the administration doesn't get it.

In case anyone was wondering, cowbells are not specifically banned by the NCAA. This is a SMU issue.

Had one of the Mustang Eleven come by to get a bell. He told us that our favorite President Turner told the Mustang Eleven that cowbells were not part of the atmosphere he wanted to create at an SMU game.

As I have said to other cowbell haters before - Dr. Turner, may I introduce you to a sport a little more your speed? Like say, chess?

The announcer a few times during key moments encouraged people to ring the cowbells with a homage to the SNL skit by saying,

"I need more cowbell".

Seems that if the announcer is saying this that cowbells are allowed and encouraged. Would be interested in the story behind how the PA announcer got in on the act. Seems strange if this is going against what Turner wants.

I think its a great idea.

I think he may have gotten a tip about the cowbells :D

The annoncer actually stopped by our tailgate and introduced himself. I gave his wife a bell and he told me it would mention it over the loud speaker.

I figure if I hand out enough, Turner wont be able to do anything about it.

Or at least you will not be able to hear his complaint.

HAH!

Thats pretty funny. Nice job. Even though its a bit silly, that is a hip SNL skit that all the "cool kids" know about and quote. Would be nice if it catches on. Of course, I can see some blue hairs [deleted] to Turner that the cowbells hurt their ears and we will get an all out ban, kinda like keeping the speaker volume down low. BTW, the sound was the loudest I had heard in quite a while, maybe they finally decided to turn it back up.

I think there are just less ears to absorb the sound.

OK, so I wasn't imagining things. I swore I heard him say that.

Speaking of "Not Allowed", a gentleman stepped up to the "inspection table" as I was re-stuffing my bag and he had a still camera (Nikon/Canon or somesuch) around his neck. Looked like a nice camera. He was told he could not enter the gate with a camera. No cameras allowed. I thought that was video cameras. Does that mean they confiscate all cell phones with photo features? I don't think so. I felt sorry for the guy. He spoke with 3 yellow shirts and they all said, "No!" I walked on. I suppose he was arrested.

Yep,

He definately said it at least twice. Hope he still has a job after hearing Turner's position......

Why should Turner care? He is partying in one of the private suites the entire game. I doubt he has even heard one cowbell.

Can't we get Bob's Steak and Chophouse to sponsor about 5000 of the things?

Maybe the alumni band should change that the next time they go up to the suites?

I thought about getting a sponsor for the bells, but decided it needed to be more of a grass roots effort. If the unofficial answer from the administration is that cowbells are not allowed, I don't want anyone to officially ask if they can sponsor the things.
