SMU is unlikely to play in New Orleans again this year.
Another reason why I think we are more of a 'natural fit' for FW, not to mention a rivalry game to boot.

This thread offends me. While it's fun that someone out there thinks we can get to a bowl, I don't think any of us should go there. I want us to be bowling in December just as bad as everybody else does. Everything appears to be favorable, but you know what, let's all just tap the breaks and abide by the cliche',

Look, bud, I don't know who the hell you think you are, but you're really starting to irritate me. I know most on this board have already written you off as irritating. You seem oblivious to this, though, and continue to post your Wally and the Beav drivel. Nobody cares. If they are like me, they don't even read most of your posts.
This website is called "PONYFANS." The people who visit this site are (mostly) FANS of SMU. If some of us want to talk about bowl games, which is certainly a topic a lot of schools' fans talk about , then WE WILL. Just because you proclaim in Ward Cleaver fashion (like everything else) that everyone should "tap the breaks [sic]" on discussions about bowl games, it doesn't mean we're all nodding in agreement. SMU is 4-3 and has a chance to go to its first bowl in 20 years. Speculation about this and other topics is warranted. I don't remember you posting prior to this season...somehow we on this board managed to get by without you.
Sorry. Just stop the condescending, offensive cr@p.

I am a sunshiner and would love to go to a bowl game but he is right, let's not look too far ahead and forget that we have to beat ECU and so on to even qualify for a bowl bid

Does anyone's post on this thread take for granted that SMU is going to a bowl game? I haven't read it that way. I don't think anyone is saying not to take it one game at a time, but to mandate that others completely refrain from discussing the possibilities should SMU win 2 or 3 more games is rude. Make that choice for yourself if you want to.

I'm sorry you feel that way. If you're questioning my loyalty to the school or our athletics department, then you have not read my posts describing my passion for each.
You have a nice day. I know I will.

I don't know why everybody is so keen on going to a bowl game in December, I have my sights set on a January bowl game for my SMU Mustangs.

Looks like you want to go to the GMAC bowl on 1/7 then
Also, after a little digging it looks like we could go to the Hawaii Bowl.
http://conferenceusa.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/hawaii-bowl.html
"Conference USA will provide a team for the 2006 Sheraton Hawaii Bowl if the Pac-10 does not have a sixth bowl-eligible team and C-USA does qualify a sixth bowl-eligible team"
So we need to start rooting against Washington, Washington St., Oregon St., and the Arizona schools.
I could do Xmas in Hawaii.

Yes, Hawaii would be nice. Watch my Mustangs play and scuba dive as well.

Mele Kalikimaka is the thing to say
On a bright Hawaiian Christmas Day
That's the island greeting that we send to you
From the land where palm trees sway
Here we know that Christmas will be green and bright
The sun to shine by day and all the stars at night
Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii's way
To say "Merry Christmas to you."

When we had a chance to turn the program around in 1997- we started to travel well- Shreveport was well attended Vs Arkansas and the TCU game had more closer to 10,000 fans (many may have been TCu students- it was hard to tell, but the whole visitor side was packed) and that game was a wicked cold Thursday night game, TCU was 0-10, and the game was also on TV.
Also, I feel that there is a fair chance that we would get a sympathy bid if it is between us and UAB and we were both 6-6, the Bowl could do more with the coverage of the fact that SMU is in its first Bowl Game in 20+ years (similar to the hype theat Rutgers got last year [and yes I know Rutgers has a good team])
Bottom Line- we have very "Fair Weather" fans- we have to give them a reason to come to the game. I think we would bring a good amount to either a Regional Venue (Fort Worth, Houston, New Orleans), but not be primed for Mobile and the like.

"One game at a time"??? Do you guys think you actually PLAY football for SMU? The players and coaches need to take it one game at a time and win each and every game. As a fan I can look forward to a bowl, to next season, to 2010 or whenever I want. What we think and what we talk about has absolutely no affect on the actual outcome of the games.
It would take a meltdown (resulting in PBs firing) to not win 2 of our final 5 games. Winning just 2 of 5 makes us bowl eligible and is reason enough for anyone to speculate if they want. The key is to not get too caught up in the certainty of going because being bowl eligible gaurantees nothing and I cannot safely say that a meltdown is completely impossible.

The FW Bowl committee would possibly pick us because of our close location. More folks would come to watch SMU play in FW for their 1st bowl game than in N.O.
However, if TCU loses another game they will most likely be a lock for their own Hometown BOWL. But if that happens, I dont see the FW committee picking us if TCU is playing in that bowl.
LETS win 7 and get a lock for a bid.

Huh? They would totally go for an SMU-TCU bowl.. ! That would be IDEAL for attendance, especially with it being a traditional rivalry!
