Katie Gross out for season, Kenzie Cole's status unknown
Oct. 17, 2006
DALLAS (SMU) - Even before the first full week of practice is under their belts, two Mustang women's basketball players are out of action for a significant length of time, as announced by SMU head coach Rhonda Rompola.
Senior forward Katie Gross (Austin, Texas) has a right knee bone contusion, which requires no impact for at least six months. SMU's lone senior on the squad, Gross was three-point specialist last season, and places third on SMU's all-time list for career three-point field goals. Gross will be the recipient of a medical redshirt year.
Junior guard Kenzie Cole is also on the injured list with a slap tear in her left shoulder, which will require surgery in the near future. The Brock, Texas, native missed last season with a preseason ACL tear and the 2004-05 season due to NCAA transfer rules. Cole's timeline to return to action is unknown.
The Mustangs will hold an intrasquad scrimmage on Sunday, Oct. 29th at 4:00 p.m. at Moody Coliseum. SMU's first exhibition game is set for Thursday, Nov. 2, vs. the Houston Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. at Moody Coliseum.
