ECU Roll Call

Postby carolina stang » Wed Oct 18, 2006 8:44 pm

Ok, I have to post this topic since I don't get to that many games. (Only Marshall and Baylor last year) First this year, plus hopefully the (optimistically) bowl game. Mrs. Carolina and little stangs and I are driving over from G'Boro Friday night. Hoofbeat from NY is joining us.

I tried and failed to hitch a ride. Apparently no one from Florida that reads this board is going.

Carolina,
Whoever is going to be with you besides the family, just make a bunch of noise to help the boys. It's going to be tough since this is ECU's homecoming.

Homecoming or no homecoming, they put 30,000+ in that stadium every week. It isn't a place you hear about much, but it is a tough place to play.

Most of the football schools in N. Carolina seem to post great attendance because most of them are a bit off the beaten path.. literally. Chapel Hill, Durham, Greenville.. also, because of the fantastic NC University System and the tendency for their giant alumni bases to stay local (and the national appeal of brands such as UNC and Duke), they really don't have to push hard to fill 30,000 seats every week.

I remember watching them beat Miami on TV in '99 before a raucous crowd. It was shortly after that area had been devastated by flooding from Hurricane Floyd. The community rallied around the team ala the Saints after Katrina.
