I hate the way the Tubbs firing was handled, and it is still an unresolved issue for me and will remain so at the very least until the NCAA announces its findings, but I have to admit that Doherty fires up even an old curmudgeon like me. I think taking a page out of the Cuban book for this blog was genius, albeit he should try to update more than once a month.

Now, as for Killen being this team's offensive leader, that has me worried....

Choices are limited. It would be tough to have an open try out walk on to be your offensive leader.

He's never going to be an NBA all-star, but Killen has been the type of player to give 100% every minute he's on the floor ever since he got here.

Coach makes it sound like Memphis and Houston will now be playing us home/home every year. That's good news.

I do like his energy and enthusiasm. Hopefully it's contagious :)

Taking the blog idea and marketing from Cuban was a great idea. I hope he and Mark can become good friends and maybe we'll get some Mavs to attend games again - I used to see Donnie at Dement's games.

True enough, but he's just not a leader. If he's expected to be, we are in big trouble.

it's all about expectations folks. Before you strive to meet 'em, you've got to set 'em. I like the fact that Doherty has high expectations for this program. I hope he and his Mustang teams will eventually enjoy the support Doc Hayes built for SMU bball and Hayes and Bob Prewitt enjoyed for so many years in the 60's and 70's. Those of you who experienced Moody in those days know what I'm talking about. It wasn't exactly Cameron Indoor, but when a Top 20 team came to town, it wasn't far from it.

Holman, Beasley, Begert, Hooser, Phillips...(shouldn't leave out Krebbs long before that) Yes, SMU has a pretty rich basketball history and once dominated the SWC as we never did in football. Hope I live to see that level of play and spirit return

Hey, we weren't exactly chopped liver in the 80's and early 90's either. Although mentioning Bliss and Shumate in the same breath as those guys is heresy, and I apologize.

If Doherty can keep some of the top players home, you EASILY could see our dominance return!

that was Bliss' recruiting strategy when he arrived...get one of the top 5 players in the DFW are to commit every year. His 1st recruit was Reggie Pink as I recall...a defensive specialist for SMU. After that, it was Carl Wright. Oh what might have been with Larry Johnson

Leader of the team, yes. Offensive leader, no.

I don't know. If Killen can make a couple of shots early in games, defenses will have to defend him. If he can then draw defenders toward him and feed his teammates for open shots, then he could be the leader of the offense without scoring a hell of a lot.

OK, maybe that's a reach, but it's one way of looking at it....

Coach D is pretty big on dropping the name of local businesses in his blog -- what are the odds we see Starbucks and the DMN as sponsors around Moody? Just a thought....
