SMU future to play out over next 9 months...<A HREF="http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/sports/colleges/6305223.htm" TARGET=_blank>http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/sports/colleges/6305223.htm</A>
========== This variable is the strongest in determining our value to CUSA and the WAC.
Re: SMU future to play out over next 9 months...If ACC is allowed a championship game with 11, Baylor is on the next load of furniture out of the Big 12. Why split money with them? If 11 is OK, why not 10 and throw Iowa St out too.
The NCAA had better understand what is at stake here. The Big BCS schools are getting ready to eat the little ones.
Re: SMU future to play out over next 9 months...the ncaa is the bcs & the bcs is the ncaa...bring on the court action!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
Re: SMU future to play out over next 9 months...Baylor won't be kick-out, despite the example of Temple being booted out of the Big East. Neither will Vanderbilt and Northwestern, who are original members of the SEC and Big Ten. This is the BCS Conference schools only method of appearing fair. Beside, these schools contribute to the win column of the other schools every year.

Re: SMU future to play out over next 9 months...Certainly the outcome will have ramifications, but its hard to even guess at which outcome would be better for SMU. It might not matter because the Big East needs to expand anyway. My feeling is that I would actually like to see the 10 team rule pass. Even if it does help the BCS leagues, it might also stabilize a southern league for the long term.
Re: SMU future to play out over next 9 months...Right with you...
If the Big East and MWC were to climb to 10 schools, CUSA would die because it would be left with 6 schools, and not all would have been in the league for the required 5 years to continue as a league. Meanwhile the WAC would have 6-8 with 5 located in Texas-Oklahoma-Louisiana. In that scenerio, either an expanded WAC with a focus on the southwest, or a new southern conference is likely... either way, SMU obtains more control over its own destiny.
Re: SMU future to play out over next 9 months...Water Pony- This is about money. Not wins and losses. If ACC is allowed to have a championship game with 11 teams, the rest of ther conferences will ask what each team contibutes to the bottom line. Baylor, Vandy, N'western are all in the sights. It may not happen in the first couple of years but it is coming. If the NCAA doesn't step up to defeat this, the handwriting will be on the wall.
I am not sure that it will even stop there. Why not 10 for a playoff? It makes as much sense as 11.
Re: SMU future to play out over next 9 months...Temple received a probationary membership to the Big East. They had a bunch of conditions they had to meet and failed to meet them, which is why they were booted out. There are no such issues with Baylor, Vandy, Northwestern, or Duke for that matter. So, any movement to oust them could run into legal complications. On the other hand, if Baylor, Vandy and Northwestern got the axe, all would be fine additions to a conference including SMU, TCU, Rice, Tulsa, Tulane.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

I count la tech, smu, tulsa, rice - that's 4. TCU, Tulane, Houston, USM is also 4 - and you can add UAB at least. If you count utep as regional, then illinois and north carolina are regional.
Re: SMU future to play out over next 9 months...UTEP is regional. It's in TEXAS and is 1 hour flight away.

The WAC will lose 2-3 to the MWC pending on Wyoming's ability to stay in D1A. The conference may also lose SJSU to the D1a status rules... = 6-8 5 in Texas-Oklahoma-Louisiana (UTEP, SMU, Rice, Tulsa, LA Tech) CUSA has 10 full members. Four may go to the Big East... = 6 The end of the post presents an either/or...
Re: SMU future to play out over next 9 months...The Baylor, Iowa State, Vandy, Wake, etc. stay in the leagues so more members can hit the 6 wins necessary for a bowl. Bowls=Money

Re: SMU future to play out over next 9 months...I am not for sure about the other conferences, but in the SEC, there has to be a unanimous vote to expel a member from conference membership... meaning a school would have to vote against itself. As for Baylor, they may be getting the axe...
This is definately worth a read. They are total morons. <A HREF="http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/news/state/6339701.htm" TARGET=_blank>http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/news/state/6339701.htm</A>
