OUR SEASON will lie on the UAB game. SMU will have extra time to prepare for that game and will take everyday seriously and use each day as a new day to get better.

We can lose two more, as long as we beat UAB.
You go right on thinking that.
Have you read my post from last week detailing where each and every CUSA team is? The only ways UAB will get 6 wins are: 1) win the easy games and beat us, or 2) upset a team
We may beat UAB. We will not go to a bowl game. But you think whatever you want.
Geaux MUSTANGS! Geaux Tigers!

Yes there is...do I need to detail it for you again?
....I've told you before that I don't think it'll happen. Unless we somehow have more than 20,000 at this ESPN game and the rest of the games at Ford...which won't happen.
CUSA will struggle to get enough teams bowl-eligible
Stallion...I don't think ECU will make it to 6.
J.T. - That is correct.

Look for a post from me either later tonight or tomorrow updating CUSA bowl chances for every team.

somebody is going to the Birmingham Bowl and if the East has a second team at 6-6 it will be that team. That's why beating this team was really important because SMU could probably go at 6-6 if those two wins were against ECU and UAB because both teams would just about be eliminated. I think ECU should breeze thru the East teams I've seen.

Our pass defense was exposed by half time of the tech game. This is no surprise to anyone.

I think a bowl representative will try and match up one of the top rated passing offenses against us in a bottom tier bowl, and to market it they will promote the most passing yards in "XXX" bowl game history - "come and see the aeiral show!!!"

We have young corners and a free saftey who, although a senior, has only been in the program for two years and only started this year. Of course our pass defense is going to be a weakness.
On third down we either get a sack, a drop, or give up a completion for big yards. That has pretty much been the case all year.
Unfortunately, our corners have to give a cushions because our safties are very late covering over the top. Also, one saftey, Sturdivant, is often supporting the run defense, so one side of the field has no help over the top, and the other side has Goode showing up very late. That is why we can't cover tight and make it a short field.
That said, the season isn't over YET. Willis "struggles" a little on the road, which is why we only scored 21 instead of 35 in this game. He is too quick to tuck the ball away on the raod. He is much more composed at home.
Additionally, our defensive play calling tends to be more aggressive at home, and our young defenders play more aggressive.
In order to make a bowl game, we have to win 2 of 3 at home and then beat Rice on the road. All of which is doable. Keep in mind that although their receivers were wide open a lot today, they also made some incredible passes when the coverage was actually there. THere were several plays in the first half, especially on the second TD drive, where their QB is getting popped and still needles it in between defenders (see the second TD pass). Nothing you can do about that, no matter who your defenders are.
Obviously, UAB becomes a must win if we want to go to a bowl. In fact, as bad as this game was, we actually can still win our division IF we somehow win out. Unfortunately, we match up very poorly against Tulsa.
And don't give me this "typical SMU" or "poor coaching" crap. We are really struggling at free saftey right now, that isn't a coaching problem. And we have way, way, way mroe offensive and defensive playmakers than we have ever had since the death penalty.

IF UCF loses to RICE today, then SMUs hopes for post season play are still very alive.

Ok now I'm good. That was fairly level-headed for having just embarassed ourselves in Greenville. I would love to believe that we have have a chance at winning C-USA, I just can't see that happening anymore. A bowl game is still quite possible. Though we have to play like we did against Marshall, not like we did today. I think the 3 game home stretch will help us a lot.

A bowl is NOT out, but highly unlikely at this point in time. Yea we're 3-0 at home, but we're playing the best 2 teams in the conference in the coming weeks. We can beat UAB, and hopefully we can overcome our kyptonite (road games) and beat Rice down in Houston, but we have to, and I mean have to steal a game from either Houston or Tulsa. Going 7-5, plus some key loses by other teams could sneak us in.

The guy is not playing for SMU. You act as if his talk of the slim possibility of going to a bowl somehow affects our team's play on the field. Maybe I as a fan should become more focused and take my spectating and fandom one game at a time too for the betterment of the team.
