'We prepared for a running game'This had to be the best quote from the main article in today's DMN about the ECU game.
Excellence is not an act but a habit. Aristotle
Your coach apparently didn't know anything about the team he was facing. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/pr ... rId=136126 Fact....James Pinkney had thrown for at least 200 yards in 19 straight games until the Tulsa game. He hadn't thrown for less than 224 in any game this season prior to the Tulsa game. He obviously didn't watch anything but the Tulsa game in which Pinkney was not 100% and Allison did not play. Not sure why he thought he needed to stop our measly ground game that has averaged 108 yards a game and 3.5 a carry. ![]()
I understand PB wanting to shut down the run but as a coach you NEVER focus on one aspect of the Game.
PB is somewhat of a decent Defensive mind. He should know better than to put more focus on the run.
We have the 116th rated pass defense in the country....... ![]()
it just makes me angry

Yet another person who can watch us play for one game and knows our coaching staff is not up to par.
Ridiculous. A smart coach can realize the opposite of the earlier game. They played Tulsa - a good team. Joe Tiller used to run run run in his easier games, and then PASS PASS PASS when he hit his harder ones and catch them off balance (at Wyoming). Bennett just took the illusory bait.
exactly.
The unexpected was the 93 yards against Tulsa. Contrary to popular belief, ECU didn't even match its season high for pass attempts.
It sounds like a lame excuse he just threw out. Even if you were surprised how about making adjustments during the game. They creamed us at the start of each half. What were we doing at half time?

Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
Dude, Pickney was still supposed to be hurt, and that one receiver wasn't supposed to be back. The fact that both were healthy surprised us. That makes sense.
You guys should chill on the anti-Bennett talk. As I said in an earlier post, our problems are at free saftey. Both of our two safties are too eager to play the run, they don't split out wide fast enough. That is why we can't cover tight at CB, because if we do, we will give up the big play. Everyone who was at even the Ark St. game saw how close they came to beating us deep early when the safties weren't getting over. We also don't have a lockdown corner, so we have to have our safties look to contain on both sides of the field. We also struggle because sturdivant has to stay inside because Carrington isn't the best against the pass. Our LBs mainly play the run, so against spread formations they always have guys either free in the middle or deep on the outside, depending on what we try to take away. One thing we are missing is the nickel package. The two outside LBs are our best cover LBs, but they usually blitz on 3rd down. A nickel would be nice with Lindley, McCann, and Lowery, but the other problem is that we just don't have enough corners who are ready to play, so you can't really run the nickel if you only have three corners in the rotation. So, in short, we don't have the saftey play to have tight coverage on the corner, and we don't have corner depth to be able to run a nickel. That isn't a coaching issue. Maybe a recruiting issue, but not a coaching issue. Next year, we will struggle at saftey still, but at least we will have more talent developed on the corners, especially if Jones comes back, and that will allow us to run more nickel packages and we will be a lot better on third and long.
Right, PB knows D so there seems to be personnel issues, fine. But that does not justify that silly comment about "surprise."
