Re: GatorsI hear that Michigan has turned down the ACC and OSU (Ohio State) and OSU (Oregon State) will exchange their memberships and join the PAC 10 and Big 10 respectively.
Also, Darrell Royal is interviewing for the AD job at Oklahoma Pony Up
Re: GatorsDon't forget that ND is open to any and all offers.
Re: GatorsI heard the ACC was going to ask Hawaii.
Re: GatorsOldPony. Funny you should mention Hawaii, as many against expansion of ACC here in NC said the same thing! Also they suggested that maybe they could help University of Tokyo start playing too!
Go Ponies!
Re: GatorsGators wouldn't want to HAVE to play Miami and Fla State every year, wouldn't want to give up the COCKTAIL party, and would rather play 8 games against every SEC school, than VaTech, Mary, Duke, etc...
Miami should have joined the ACC long ago, and adding (trying to add) Syr and BC was just stupid geographically. The ACC will probably settle on W. Virginia - or - try and steal S. Carolina (which won't go since the hatred towards N.Carolina schools). ND would just be plain stupid geographically, most of their alums are in the MWest and NEast anyway. UL would love the ACC, but they may not get it as a commuter school in the land of some of the best academic state/private schools in the country (Duke, Virginia, etc), although Fla State ain't no brain child...oh sure a few programs here and there...a la OKLAHOMA, but who in Texas seriously considers going to OU for its academic reputation? When we graduated from HS, all you needed to get into OKState was a birth certificate, and a driver's license to get into OU.
Re: GatorsIn a related story, there is now discussion of the establishment of the 'Conference of O's', which will have as its charter members:
Ohio State Oklahoma Oklahoma State Oregon Oregon State According to sources, others being considered: Old Dominion (women's Bball only) Ohio University Our Lady of the Lake (San Antonio) Same sources admit that getting to a 12-team conference 'poses challenges', but hopes are that schools like Wisconsin-Oshkosh will reverse the order of its name in order to qualify. I root for: Mustangs, Astros & Jets!
Re: GatorsAnd Ole Miss.
Re: Gators"I see us being in the [SEC] conference for many, many years." - Florida AD
Then again...how many coaches have been considered for another school, and then re-assured their current school that they were not going ANYWHERE!! (see: Franchione, Gary Barnett, etc.) JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley assured fans that the Gators have no plans to become the Atlantic Coast Conference's 12th team. "All I know is that from the University of Florida's perspective, we're proud to be a member of the Southeastern Conference," Foley said. "I see us being in the conference for many, many years."
Re: GatorsYou also forgot Oral Roberts University...
