Let me explain something to you. I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me.

Yes. Exactly.

Their are only two SMU single season passing records that are not in danger of falling this year:

Chuck Hixson's single season yardage total of 3,103 (1968).
- and -
Mike Romo's single season completion total of 282 (1989).

Based on Willis's 6.75 games played he is on pace for 194 completions for 2,027 yards, 30 touchdowns, and only 4 picks (4.77).... and of course his completion percentage will stick at 70.1%

If his completion percentage holds he will dwarf Mike Livingston's 60.8 (minimum 200 attempts... he would also beat Meredith's 69.6 but that's only for a minimum of 100 attempts... and Willis already has 174 attempts).

His projected 30 touchdowns would shatter the previous record of Hixson's 21 in 1968, and would put him within 10 touchdowns of the SMU career record (also Hixson's at 40).

Also, just to note, his season would rank in the top ten for both completions and yardage. (But not attempts... and that's actually pretty cool.)

........

But one thing webfeet does have right, is that we don't truly know what Slater can bring to the table. But with those numbers that Willis is throwing up right now, I don't think we will be finding more about CSlater anytime soon.

I think Corey is a decent QB as well. Ask Big10; I think the guy has potential, not the least of reasons is that he is a tough SOB who can take a hit and keep on clicking.

Bottom line: Willis has had a year to master the offense, and he has 6 starts (should've been eight but for the off-the-field problem) and 1 come from the bench after two series of nothing against Marshall.

Bottom line: All the statistics cited previously; math and facts.

Bottom line: Neither Slater's dad nor any of us have any authority to evaluate who the starter ought to be. It is the stuff of the proverbial peanut gallery. Right, wrong, or indifferent, PB is in charge until the end of this season, and then he still may be in charge. Regardless of whether he is or isn't, the coach makes that call.

Bottom line: ECU beat us. Next.

i dont see CS playing unless justin decides to go to the NFL early  .... if you are his friend or relative you should be proud of what he has done for this team, and doing what is asked of him... it would be sad if other people were putting this in the back of his mind!

I agree, I hope Corey doesnt have any of the thoughts/discontent that his dad does for Justin. He knew what he was getting in when he decided to commit to us. Hopefully he is content being Justin's backup, knowing he'll have the chance to play on any possible Saturday (or Tuesday)

Your wife might want to check some of the earlier posts in this thread:

He's serious, BTW. This guy has a dozen posts dating back to January and every one is about Slater.

This quote from one of the earlier ones may shed some light on his motivations.
These opinions are just mine his Dad's and not Corey's. So don't hold anything against him for what I have said. I am just trying to fill in some blanks about who Corey Slater is.

Personally, I don't think choosing a quarterback based on the logic that he helped the team lose by less then it was supposed to is all that sound.

Corey Slater is only one big hit on Justin Willis away from getting the opportunity to prove he is the QB his father obviously believes he can be. I certainly hope all our backups yearn for playing time and are working hard to earn it. Those who feel mistreated or figure out they will never see playing time either accept their role or move on to another program.

I do like the fact that Corey settled in a little in that 2nd half against UTEP. If we do get a game in miserable rainy conditions, Justn falters and we fall way behind, I would hope Bennett might give Corey a chance to play in conditions he's more accustomed to.

Bottom line in this debate is that SMU is still a very average football team and a team that MUST not turn the ball over

Willis has completed 70% of his 174 passes for 19 TDs and only 3 INTs

Slater has compelted 46% of his 44 passes with 2 TDs and 4 INTs

That's really about all that needs to be said.

We better recruit a northeastern quarterback in the off chance we have to play in the snow. 8)
