It's painful to listen to SMU on the radio

This is the forum for talk about SMU Football

Then, I guess we want sub-par broadcasts week after week. That's fine. Knock yourself out. While I appreciate what Swann did for the program,

HIS BROADCASTING SKILLS BLOW!!

And I know these last couple of posts are only to get me going. Thanks. I love the debate.

there is nothing wrong with passion for what you day, and that's what Craig has. The Rangers fired Vince Cotroneo from their broadcast booth a few years ago, citing a lack of passion. SMU football needs all the fans/listeners that it can get, and listening to Craig pumps me up, it doesn't make me want to turn off the radio. I agree that sometimes he'll interrupt Rich, but its only when something critical just happened (like a flag, etc.) I'll never have any complaints about our broadcasters.

Don't forget! We regularly win "homer call of the week" on 1310-The Ticket with Swanny! That's great pub for SMU
I think they do a fine job.

There should be some balance between calling the game correctly and being a Homer. George Dunham does a good job calling UNT games. The worst is Dave South. He is so busy trying to squeeze commercial "plugs" in that he can't describe the action on the field. Estridge isn't bad, Way is good. Brad Sham has lost his touch. The best is Cooperstein.

Swann seems to feel that every call against the Ponies is "horrible, pathetic, terrible," etc. A few years ago Dunham and Miller actually attended a scrimmage worked by local high school officials and tried their had at refereeing. After that experience, they have always said that they have a new respect for trying to referee a game. I think Swann needs to do that himself. He won't, but he should.

This is football :!: Professionalism is not required on Saturdays :!:
You should try following the Longview Lobos play by play guys.

Been in the booth with them, and we were allowed to talk in the
background on a long distance broadcast when signal to noise ratio
might be weak.

Craig James, Forrest Gregg, and the Fry guy were just as bad, and just
as great in their first years as SMU radio sports guys :!: Did any of them
make it big time?

Go Swannee :!:

Wrong! I demand professionalism from my broadcast team and we're not getting it from Swann. While it's funny that we make the homer call or whatever it is, that isn't a title to be proud of. I've heard the segment. They mock the crews for being so hokey. If you can live with Swann in the booth, then you have no expectations of your crew.

Go away, small 10.

Listening to Way "blow" Mack Brown (on every play) is pathetic.

Unless, of course, you spend a few minutes watching him on HS FB Friday Nite.

He has zero charisma-- his claim to fame: he has just the right gig.

Turn this forum into your favorite broadcast moment...mine had to be when Jessie Henderson had the TD return during the Tulane game...Craig called a Touchdown when Henderson hit the 50 yard line...I LOVE IT...Rich Phillips dominates on tickers too...go P1s

Sorry, Big10. As a former broadcaster, I have to agree with the majority of the posters here that Swann & Phillips are THE team for the Mustangs.

I no longer watch the Friday Night Scoreboard on Fox Sports because of Way & Renner. Two dorks.

And I've been in the same broadcast booth with Way on more than one occasion. I can say - with complete conviction - that he is very unprofessional in more ways than one.

Craig & Rich are a great combo and they LOVE the Mustangs! Props to them!

Say what you want about Swann & Phillips, but the greatest part about SMU on the radio is John Hampton on the sidelines. That guy really knows the game and is pretty darn funny. He should get more time on the air.
