coach Phil Bennett said Tuesday that if students happen to miss evening classes to attend next Tuesday's game vs. UAB, which is being aired on ESPN2, that's alright with him.
"I'll be you all of those students have skipped class before," Bennett said. "I don't want to get in trouble for saying this, they would have my excuse if they didn't go. I'm not sure if that's good enough."
Bennett was kind of joking, but SMU needs all the help it can get heading into its final four games. With a three-game homestand and needing two wins to get to a bowl, the Mustangs are in a rare position this late in the season to control their future.
"This is where the money is made," Bennett said.
To which I say, "Good."

I have class on Tuesday evening, and I care about SMU football. So much so that I read and post on ponyfans while in class.

Dang kids with their fancy computers and fancy WiFi.
Back in my day -- four years ago (ouch, it hurts just to type that) -- we had to make due with the crossword puzzle in the back of the DC.
Just my two cents.

TCU ran into similar problems with their Thursday games..., students skipped class.

I'm surprised "DPD" hasn't been to the Coaches office, handcuffed PB, maze/taze & book him for those remarks.

Take a deep breath, everyone. Coach Bennett was kidding, as I think all of you know.

I doubt classes would be held at LSU, Alabama or Auburn during a nationally televised game on campus.

If Bennett encouraged students to skip classes Tuesday night, that would only be one additional reason for the Faculty Senate not to support the the athletic dept.
