Did Demyron Martin break Wayne Morris' freshman rushing record???
I do not remember how much he rushed for in the UTEP game last year but I know that he was very close to break that mark.
I think he was 17 yds shy of it.
Sir, shooting-star, sir.
Frosh 2005 (TEN YEARS AGO!?!) The original Heavy Metal.
I thought he was short. I believe that Morris' record of 840 something yards as a freshman wont be broken for a while. If James couldnt break it, ED couldnt break and Martin just missed it, I dont see anyone breaking it in the near decade.
why? if circumstances had been different, Waggoner, Charles, James and Martin could have broken it easily. Waggoner got hurt and missed the final 2 games plus shared the same position with the NFL Single Season Rushing Champion and the NFL Single Season Rushing Record Holder for Caucasions in the last 20 years. James would have broken if he didn't split time 3 ways at TB and spent half the time at FB as a blocking back. Charles almost broke it in about 5 games. Martin would have broken it if he had played the opener. By the way, Morris, Charles, Waggoner, and James were all true freshman, Martin was a redshirt freshman. Martin was great as a redshirt freshman but I would place in 5th on that list as far as the best freshman running back in SMU history. Morris, Waggoner and Charles were truly incredible running backs whose careers were shorten or prematurely and abruptly terminated. James was All-Pro. Morris was the No. 1 High School Running Back in the Country out of Dallas SOC.
Yes, Martin was the only won in that group to get an extra year to learn and I was unaware they had records for Caucasions???
Are African Americans holding all the records these days???
you obviously didn't get to read my Curse of Craig James post that got deleted yesterday, Craig James is the last white running back to run for over 1,000 yards in the NFL according Wikipedia. Actually James had about 1,250 yards 20 years ago.
Curse the webmasters for deleting that thread. I sure wish I could have read that before posting my previous post.

Choate had 31 against A$M Dickerson 32 gainst Ohio State Oh...and James ran for 225 in that Holiday Bowl
That's great! They should introduce him like that on the ESPN broadcast. "Now up to the booth with the NFL Single Season Rushing Record Holder for Caucasions and the NFL Career Dropkicks Leader for the Superbowl Era"
Oh, another one that I certainly hope will never be broken:
Keylon Kincaide 644 carries over a 2 year period
I could see that falling as Willis and Sanders continue to develop. They have 3+ years left to try for it.
Longest SMU Punt - Preston Johnston at Pittsburgh, 1940 ...92 yards
Longest Pass reception - Craig James against NTSU, 1982 ... 96 yards Career Touchdowns - Eric Dickerson - 48 Most Losses in a Season by a Head Coach - Phil Bennett,2003 .... 12 Class of '91
I want some help here from the experts. In the early 70's SMU played Arkansas in Fayettville. Hixson was hurt and Gary Carter stepped in. Gary was a very capable QB but we were overmatched on a day that was very cold, very windy and overall just miserable. Luckily I got to work the press box of that game. Gary had the distinction of setting the single season interception record in that game. I thought it was more that 7 but could very well be mistaken. I do know it was more than 5 but it is not listed in the all time records in the archives. Is there anyone that has a good enough memory or any specific info on that game to let me know if my mind is totally shot or that there is an omission in the archives.
