From the Fayetteville (NC) Observer:

Methodist College could have a new name after this weekend.

If the board of trustees decide to change the school’s name from "college" to "university,’’ students, staff and alumni could celebrate during the school’s 50th anniversary and homecoming next week.

Names that are being considered: Eastern Methodist University (EMU), Methodist University (MU) or keeping it as Methodist College. There has been some discussion by the school's trustees that using 'Eastern' would help make the school's name a bit more descriptive, just as 'Southern' helps make SMU more descriptive, in their opinion.
