Looks like Tulsa has a pretty decent crowd, for a Friday night.

I expected to be more impressed with Tulsa than I am.

Price on the sideline looks as though he's thinking, "man I better start winning more like I did the first year or I'll never get out of El Paso"

agreed, I don't know what would have to happen for us to win the conference, but I'm guessing it involves some sort of divine intervention.

Not bashing on our chances to play for a CUSA championship but it is almost impossible for us to be in that game. Mathmatically there is a chance, 1) Both teams, no matter who wins tonite must lose ALL of their remaining games and 2) We would have to win out.

UTEP loss, C-USA championship dreams aside, would be better for the bowl picture. That puts UTEP @ 4-4 with 4 to play...which I believe to be UAB Rice Marshall and Memphis.

Sounds like I would rather have UTEP sweating out 4-4.

I change the station at the end of the 3rd and turn back to see Tulsa head 30-20.

Looks like UTEP will fall to 4-4 on the year with 2 games left on the road and 2 at home. The home games look like guarenteed wins on paper against Rice and Memphis.

RECAP: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=263000202\

I was unaware that Tulsa had the #2 pass defense in the nation.

It's feasible for us to win the division. It's not in our hands, but it's feasible. UTEP has to lose one more, at least. With UTEP as inconsistent and horrible at defense as they are, that is a certain possibility. Tulsa has to lose two (one of which to us and the best bet would be Houston), and Houston has to lose to us. Wins against UAB and Rice are the only way for this to be a reality.

We do have to win out for that to happen, but the other teams SURELY don't have to drop all of their games. I'm not even sure where you got that idea.

I got that idea because even if Tulsa loses 2, Houston loses 2, and UTEP loses 2, that does not mean we win the division. It comes down to a Tie-break for which UTEP would would have the tie breaker over us but Tulsa would have a tiebreaker over UTEP, and Houston would win a tiebreaker over UTEP.

For us to have a legitimate shot at the Division UTEP, HOUSTON, and TULSA would have to lose 3 of their last 4 games. That means that Memphis would have to pull the huge upset of Houston and UTEP and we would still have to win out.

For an OUT-RIGHT shot at the division, those 3 teams would basically have to lose the rest of their games.

Ok, no. Assuming we win all 4 of our games. That would put us at 8-4, 6-2.

UTEP (4-4)(2-2) would have to win all 4 of its games left for there to even be a tiebreaker between us and them.

Tulsa (7-1)(4-0) would need to lose 2 conference games (one to us, the other to an arbitrary opponent). If Tulsa loses to us and someone else that would put them at 9-3, but 6-2 in conference with the tiebreaker going to us.

Houston (5-3)(3-1) would need only to lose to us for them to end up 6-2 in conference and the tiebreaker to go to us.

You are right and bring up a good point but have you seen the remaining UTEP schedule, Houston schedule, and the Tulsa schedule?

Sure, games are won on the field and not on paper but Houston has the easiest road ahead not counting us and UTEP has the easiest of those 3.

Tulsa has the #2 pass defense in the nation so I am going to go ahead and assume they shut down Kolb.

It can be done though, winning the west. Just a very big long shot.

Yeah, unfortunately I have. It's not promising for our hopes, but we C-USA teams are horribly unpredictable. Who would have thought that the same UTEP team that hung with TT into overtime would lose to UNM and almost lose to NMSU? Who expected Houston to lose to Miami by 1 and then embarass themselves by losing to the Ragin' Cajuns? It's not out of the question, but we'll just have to see where the chips fall. I'd personally be pleased with a bowl. That would be a nice step in the right direction. Next year we can worry about frying bigger fish.

Very True. CUSA TEAMS = UNPREDICTABLE. You can add our loss to UNT as something that seemed shocking at the time.
