Video Screen/Replays

Postby docabel » Wed Nov 01, 2006 12:02 pm

This has been a long standing disagreement that I have had with the program since moving to Ford Stadium. Does anyone else feel that our video screen is tremendously underutilized? Two specific instances last night highlight my concerns. After scoring the long TD run by Mapp, I don't recall seeing a replay on the screen - instead we saw the 45 second cartoon graphic signaling TOUCHDOWN. Then on the ensuing 2 point conversion, we never saw a replay, even when it went to under review. There was at least a 2-3 minutes passed before they put the play under review, with no replay. Why do we not replay the plays that are being reviewed? Another suggestion that we used to do, but no more, was to run highlight plays during timeouts and halftime. Our screen is beautiful, with nice viewing from pretty much anywhere in the stadium, why are we not using it to further ramp up excitement at the games?

There is a new rule that you cannot show replays in the stadium while the play is bring reviewed. Dont know why, but it is a rule.

The only complaint I have with the replay is that it is shown about 5 or 10 seconds too quickly. Every time I look up for the replay they are showing the "replay by Pluckers (or whomever) sign". I know everything goes fast, but there is enough time to wait just about 5 more seconds and then more could see them. My first thought after a big play is to look for flags, check for first down or not and then look to the screen and by then it is over.

They will not show the replays because the stadium could influence the officials and in that one OU game it might have caused the death of one or more.

Absolutely the case. So why don't we show the play a second time - mind you not every play/time, but for big plays I think that would be reasonable.

Didn't know about the rule of not showing plays under review - but many of the times these plays are fairly obvious when they could/should be reviewed - why not create some more homefield advantage by replaying those and getting the fans more vocal/riled up.

I agree. There were a couple of times that I looked up expecting the replay and there were just lots of graphics up. I didn't know about the review rule, but sometimes they were still playing the Halloween music into the ref's summary of the review. They need to be paying a little bit more attention to what's happening on the field.

Also, I wonder how much money we spent on all of the fancy Halloween graphics with music for the jumbotron. While it was cool, I kept thinking that we were probably only going to use it for this one game ever.
