8 wins in the last 12PB mentioned this on national TV last night...talk about advertising the program to the nation. I loved it.
8 wins in the last 12 games doesn't mean much if you're not watching your team win a bowl game. If we don't win 2 of 3, it'll be business as usual at grandma's house with you telling your Aggie cousin "wait until next year!"
I do not personally want SMU to go to a bowl because of an Aggie cousin at grandma's. They can pound sand.
I am interested in seeing a program get off is moribund butt and give the players, coaches, students, and alumni something to look forward to consistently, win-lose-or-draw. And unfortunately, right now, we really need more wins to offset all of the past losses and draws. "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992
Actually it's a lot more fun to tell your Aggie cousin to pound sand when your team is winning too.
The problem with 8-4 over your last twelve is when it comes over two seasons you can be ineligible for post-season play in both.
8/12 doesn't get you a bowl if it happens like it has for us over the past 12 but it is a nice story to sell recruits that ask if we are turning the program around.
Though I grant you...won't mean spit if we get smoked in our final three games this year
I heard a nasty little rumor that the New Orleans Bowl will be looking our way if we can finish out 6-6. But shhhhhh dont tell the players let them finish out 8-4.
..after last nights game, we need a bowl, for the extra practice, that is.....I was all nervous, walking around, yelling, clapping, fired up..for about 15-20 minutes. Then, is just never felt right, strange vibe...this team is not real sharp / good..I am trying my level best to get cranked up, but it is a struggle......was not impressed with Willis (weak arm), O line is terrible...D line / backers are solid, that was a bright spot...but thank the Lord UAB was worse...GO PONIES, BEAT UH, finish 8-4, play for the crown, not some 6-6 after thought bowl, even though the practice is needed.
I also thought the D played well, but our tackling was terrible. If we are going to spend the whole game keeping receivers infront of us for a three yard out, we have got to tackle them and not allow a short pass to turn into a eight, nine yard gain.
like you i was nervous last night before the game, bc i knew it could be the breaking point in our season... we did not play our best game. i spent an hour on the phone today with a former player analyzing the game like we do every week... Defense played ok, but i dont feel like they were tested. offense was terrible. few sparks by mapps, and a nice play by willis evading a sack to throw a touchdown. my buddy made a good comment that for the last 4+ years that play would have been a sack, but justin's ability to improve and shake defenders is what this offense needs with a marginal o-line (much like tony romo). I think we all know that if SMU plays that way against any of the remaining teams (including rice) we will get killed. The one thing to take away from this is that every year smu has a few games like this and ends up losing... I would give the team an overall C/C- in execution, but they played with heart and got the W. hopefully we can win atleast 2 of the next 3 and go to a bowl... BEAT HOUSTON
The vast majority of what was said about the Ponies last night was very positive, and a televised win sells the program more than anything.
Well done, Mustangs!
last night was good to get a win on national tv, but we didnt not show the country our best game...
Yup, and if we should happen to 0-fer the next 3, maybe Orsini won't pull a Copeland, and fire Bennett. Firing Rossley was the biggest mistake since we fired ol Hayden.
