Scouting Cougar High

Postby Mustang98 » Thu Nov 02, 2006 11:18 am

Since we have the weekend off, will Coach Bennett go down to Houston with his staff to scout the Tulsa @ Houston game live or is it all done remotely using tape from the game?

One would imagine that Bennett and his staff would spend the weekend going to high school games and focusing on recruiting. Bennett can send one coach to watch the game but film is so much better for analysis of an opponent and developing a game plan.

That makes a lot of sense. Recruiting is key.

Thanks guys.

yes how does game film work in college.. I am assuming its common practice to trade game film much like it is in high school.. but there have been times in high school where the rivalry is so deep and the game is so big coaches have not traded tape.

Is there an NCAA rule that mandates coaches to send tapes out to opposing staffs?
or
Is it up each coach staff to get tape?

it is up to the staffs . . . an unwritten rule of tape trading . . . I know with that other school to the west SMU would have to get tapes from Utah or BYU, or New Mexico or whoever . . . that other school was not a fan of trading!! punks!!
Sports, and all that implies.

Unless the world has changed, the coaching staff has been breaking down film of Houston for weeks. If Houston (Example only) didn’t provide film, the SMU coaches would just get Houston's opponents’ film. Also, theses coaches may need a job one day (one never knows when one may be fired) so cooperation and good networking is a key to future employment. It wouldn't do to be a jerk about film exchange. The coaching staff prepared for these last two weekends when the schedule was finalized. The Staff has prepared game film analysis and knows who will be on the road and such well in advance.
