Maybe I am living way in the past but I swore that a drop kick was either the equivalent of a punt or a fieldgoal. I do know that it can be returned if missed like a field goal and most returners would never know that the ball touched the ground. Of course if we are sitting at the 50 and the season is on the brink what do we have to lose if we attempt the Drop Kick.

I thought it was an entertaining sidebar and once again, good PR for SMU. We may have the best drop kick specialist in the country on our roster
One nice dream would be that we are way up on Houston next weekend and to throw a little salt in the wound we let him set up showing punt and then drop kick from about the 50. Our alums would love it. Unfortunately, Bennett has too much class to let us do that. I'll never forget the 95 points.
I wouldn't mind using the drop kick to add to our 93-21 score. 96-21 would be a sweet, sweet payback.

There is a reason drop kicks aren't used anymore. They are too unpredictable now that hte ball is more flat with forward pass rules. If we try it and shank it, everyone will insist we should have done a normal FG or punt, and that PB is an idiot for trying his silly trick plays.
Morstead is pretty accurate with the dropkicks. I watch him all rehearsal (not really!) nailing the crap out of those footballs, and they land within 10 feet of the same spot everytime. Not to mention they go 70 yards.

Do they have professional football teams here? Morstead may have a future.
