Re: POP QUIZ: SWC MASCOT TRIVIA
Bevo was the result of UT having to fix a brand applied to their cow after the aggies got to her. 13-0 was the score of the game they branded (presumably an aggie victory, but with them you never know) - the teasips changed the 13 into a "B" turned the dash into an E, slipped a V into the space between the dash and the 0, and presto - BEVO was born, and they have been basically celebrating a loss ever since then. And people tell Aggie jokes?

Re: POP QUIZ: SWC MASCOT TRIVIA
SMU's mascot. = The allmighty Peruna
A&M's mascot. = The allmighty $
U.T.'s mascot. = Same as A&M, except 3 $$$ signs (just to beat A&M at something)
U.H's mascot. = Jenna Jamison
Rice's mascot. = Trick Question - they don't need a mascot - it is beneath them
TT's mascot. = Tumbley the Tumble Weed
Baylor's mascot. = Grant Teaff's extremely large A**
TCU's mascot. = Tokin' Toadie the Toad
Arkansas's mascot. = William Jefferson Clinton
Tokin' Toadie the Toad got it's name when Billy Tubbs asked Lee Nailon who he had been out with the entire evening before the TCU-Fresno State basketball game in Fort Worth - I think it was 1997.
Sorry to digress - but I couldn't help it

Funny stuff. But I dont get the UH/Jenna Jamison connection? Do they have a good porn film school at UH? If so, do they offer a graduate program?

Re: POP QUIZ: SWC MASCOT TRIVIA
Raider Red is the official mascot of TTU, and the Masked Rider is a student tradition (but also kind of an unofficial mascot).
Midnight Matador is the name of the current horse, but that changes with each new horse.

Wasn't 13-0 their season record?

SMU-THE University of Texas
Re: POP QUIZ: SWC MASCOT TRIVIA

quote:
The debate was abruptly settled early on Sunday morning, February 12, 1917. A group of four Texas A&M students equipped "with all the utensils for steer branding" broke into the South Austin stockyard at 3 am. There was a struggle, but the Aggies were able to brand the longhorn "13-0," which was the score of the 1915 football game A&M had won in College Station.
Only a week later, amid rumors that the Aggies planned to kidnap the animal outright, the longhorn was removed to a ranch 60 miles west of Austin. Within two months, the United States entered World War I, and the University community turned its attention to the conflict in Europe. Out of sight and away from Austin, the branded steer was all but forgotten until the end of the war in November 1919. Since food and care for the animal was costing the University 50 cents a day, and because the steer wasn't believed to be tame enough to roam the campus or remain in the football stadium, it was fattened up and became the barbecued main course for the January 1920 football banquet. The Aggies were invited to attend, served the side they had branded, and were presented with the hide, which still read "13-0."

The jab at UH goes back to the days of the early 90s when the coach (can't remember which one) would splice pornography into the game film review so that the players would actually show up to watch the game film (and not fall asleep).
