Personally I narrowed my search down to the two schools offering a scholarship (easy decision, eh?).
Those two schools were Texas A&M and the University of Houston.
It didn't take more than 5 minutes on the campus of Texas A&M to mark that one off the list.
Conversely, it didn't take me more than 5 minutes to fall in love with the University of Houston. Beautiful campus, beautiful women, it's in the heart of Houston, what's not to love?!?

Seriously, change your avatar. It screws with the page formatting.
My choices were as follows (in order of preference for Architecture Programs)
1) Texas
2) Washington
3) Tulane
4) USC
5) UT Arlington
6) Duke
7) Notre Dame
I got accepted to all them but since my parents were not paying for anything over what it cost to go to Texas, my free choices were UT and UTA. I think I made the right choice.

SMU - Early admission
USC - Got in during regular admission
TEXAS - Had about a .01% chance of getting in from out of state.
My pseudo first choice was USC because all of my friends were going there, but I decided I wanted college to be a bit different than high school.
Being from California, I didn't know much about SMU, but loved the women, campus, city and everything else.
My real first choice and if I had gotten into UT I would have gone without a second thought. I love sports and even though they weren't world beaters or even close when I was applying to college, they were still big time college sports and what I pictured my college life as. Plus Austin is hella fun.
Having said all that, I could not see myself at SC or UT. I LOVED my time at SMU, best school in the country.

1. SMU
2. SMU
3. SMU
I only applied to SMU. Too many family/alum connections Mother, Uncle, Grandfather, both sisters, Methodist Church etc etc.
I briefly considered Texas, but after seeing SMUs campus (when my oldest sister moved in) and seeing the Ponies play in the Cotton Bowl, I was sold on SMU. It is the best school in Texas by far - but I'm a little biased of course.
I could not imagine an undergrad experience that would ever come close anywhere else.
