Clarksville is no power, but they were unbeaten in district. Ganaway carried ball 47 times for 417 yards and 6 TDs, and played entire game at safety. Don't give me that junk about all his carries. That is what makes this performance so special. He still average around 9 yards per carry. Ganaway does not have Creer or Johnson's reputation nationally, but I would be hard-pressed not to take him if I had a choice. I'm not say anything bad about Creer, Johnson or any great back in East Texas. It just time to recognize Ganaway in the same breath. He now has 2,312 yards in 9 games with 29 TDs, and is second leading tackler on the team. [/i]

Ganaway has career night against Clarksville

CLARKSVILLE — DeKalb's Terrance Ganaway put on a show for the standing-room-only crowd Friday at New Century Club Field.

The 2005 Class 2A Most Valuable Player ran for 417 yards and six touchdowns on 47 carries to lift the Bears to a 42-27 win that captured the District 15-2A championship.

Ganaway added a second-half interception for good measure, while his touchdown runs covered 15, 7, 13, 3, 5 and 21 yards. The senior has now surpassed the 2,000-yard rushing mark for the second time in as many years after breaking tackles, eluding defenders and racing past the Clarksville defense on numerous occasions.

"The bottom line is they've got a great football team, and Ganaway is the best athlete I've seen in a long time," Clarksville head coach Robert Manley said. "We had him hemmed up several times, but we just couldn't tackle him. That's why he's the 2A Player of the Year in Texas."

The Tigers (7-2, 4-1) had already clinched a playoff berth but move to second place and had their seven-game winning streak end. They forced a turnover on the Bears' opening drive of the second half, when Ganaway fumbled in the backfield on a running play. Linebacker Tracy Morgan ran the loose ball back eight yards.

Clarksville capitalized with a 65-yard drive that ended with Shamond Richardson's 5-yard touchdown pass to Ricky Roberts. The extra point was blocked, leaving the Tigers down 21-13 entering the fourth quarter.

Richardson completed 10 of 18 passes for 143 yards and three touchdowns.

The Bears, who have won eight straight games after a season-opening loss to New Boston, responded by scoring on three straight possessions on touchdown runs of three and five yards by Ganaway for a 35-13 advantage with 9:17 left in the game.

The Tigers scored again at the 6:45 mark, with Jonathan Larkin taking a shovel pass 18 yards for the touchdown to pull within 16. Larkin moved past the 1,000-yard mark for the season in rushing yards and added three catches for 63 yards, but the Bears answered with Ganaway's 21-yard reverse run with 2:58 left.

"Tonight was Ganaway's night, and he showed up, and I'm proud for him," Manley said. "He's a good football player, and the thing we're going to do is use this to get better. I know our kids will play hard next week."

Larkin returned the ensuing kickoff 93 yards for the game's final touchdown with 2:41 left, and Richardson converted the two-point pass to Jeremy Stafford.

DeKalb used a pair of Ganaway touchdowns during the first quarter to jump out to a 14-0 lead. The senior back set the stage by breaking tackles for a 15-yard touchdown on the opening possession and followed with a 7-yard run with 1:29 remaining in the quarter.

Nick LaToof converted all six of his extra point attempts.

Clarksville responded on the first play of the second quarter, moving within a touchdown when Richardson found Stafford for a 26-yard touchdown pass. Brooks Varley added the extra point.

Ganaway, who rushed for 186 yards in the first half, reached the end zone from 13 yards out to give the Bears a 21-7 lead with 5:58 left in the first half. The Bears had another opportunity to score before intermission, but Demontrae Coleman's fumble inside the red zone was recovered by Isaac Cunningham at the Tiger 12 with 17 seconds remaining.

Coleman gained 138 yards on 21 carries and had 92 yards in the first half.

DeKalb, runner-up in District 16-2A one year ago, had 71 rushing plays in the game and attempted only one pass while averaging eight yards per carry. The defense allowed only three yards per rush.

"We're in the playoffs and are the runners-up after being picked to finish fourth," Manley said. "Our kids are going to be OK.. I know our seniors will make it happen."

The Bears, who picked up 26 first downs in the game, fumbled the ball twice, while Ganaway's interception was the lone Clarksville turnover.

Clarksville ends district play next week at Rivercrest (3-6, 0-5), while DeKalb hosts Prairiland (5-4, 3-2), who lost 27-8 to Honey Grove.

I thought it was as a safety, but putting up those numbers...who knows? He might stick as a halfback

I hope this makes Stallion more comfortable with the current coaching staff's ability to analyze and measure talent (regardless of whether they actually show up or not), especially of guys at smaller schools. I know that anecdotal evidence or individual cases a compelling record does not make, but this sure doesn't make them look worse.

The real question is, and I am sure Stallion concurs, is whether this staff is talented enough at recruiting to keep this kid, or whether they have any effect on him whatsoever anyway.

Man, I hope this fellow's SAT/ACT goes well.

Congratulations to Terrance Ganaway on being named Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football 2A Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in week 9. Terrance had 417 yds rushing on 46 carries and 6 TD's along with an interception at FS on defense.
