whoever that Houston fan was who said the key to the Game was whether SMU would be able to handle UHs speed. Anthony Arldridge is one of the fastest straight ahead RBs I've seen. We didn't handle Aldridge and that was the ball game.

Yeah, he made our league best run D look like our league worst pass D...Isn't it ironic that our horrible pass D for the most part shut down the best pass O? I think Bennett over compensated shutting down the pass game and our run D suffered. Then again Aldridge probably would have had at least one of those runs anyway.

Look SMU has been riding the back of the Conference's Defensive MVP Haywood all year. Once he went down and Bonds yoo got nicked up we aren't the same rush defense. We got simply bulldozed a few times in the second half. Big hole for next year.

I am old and have watched a lot of football and I do have to say that Aldridge is one of the "football uniform" fastest players I have ever witnessed.

It looked like we were 11 men in the box formation on those two plays (77yds) and there were no LBs or SS/FS to back up the DL...once he got through the line it was over.

How's our 'team' speed looking now?

well on the first 77 yard run he simply blew right between our two safeties. I love Sturdivant and think he's one of the best technique safeties we have had but that play shows just how important speed can be. Aldridge made our safeties look like were running in quicksand.

I believe he made that run on the same play that Haywood got hurt. That may have been the reason he could run straight up the middle like that.

speed kills and we were definitely exposed. And yes, Haywood's going down was a key but give Houston credit for running between the tackles after he went down. Hope Bennett and company have a line on some JUCO DTs to fill what will be a HUGE void next year.

Most definitely. Alridge and Battle get major props for accelerating faster than the Lamborghini I've seen on campus. (Such a nice car...)

I noticed that except for the safeties, once he was through the line it was clear sailing. Great play call for whatever defense we had at that moment. I suspect we were so committed to stopping the pass (which for the most part we did) that we were vulnerable to a fast cut back runner like Aldridge. He was a burner no doubt about it.
