Its amazing...I now see why SMU fans are ridiculed all over collegiate football...

People go from "wow we could win out and make the C-USA Champ. game" to "nope season is over, I bet we don't even win the last two"

Was Sat's loss to Houston painful and a little embarrassing??? YES!!! But we can beat up on a battered Tulsa team and then stick it to Rice in Houston for the first time in 20 years...this team has a legit shot at 7-5, maybe if the fans would show some consistent support the team would show some consistent play

I think I'm more embarrassed by SMU's fans right now than the football team

Thank you for illustrating in the initial part of your post exactly why a level-headed, no-expectations approach is the only sane way to be a fan of this program. Let's all hope we can pull off the very major upset of Tulsa, but for heaven's sake, just don't expect it.

Now as for your estimates of a "legit shot" and fans' consistency affecting a team's consistency, you're spouting a bunch of crap.

Everyone needs to calm down. I, like many of you, found myself physically ill after that game. To have control over a good houston team for so long and then to give it up the way we did will make any fan start thinking "next year". But we still have two very winable games left. Not sure if winable is a word. Any way if we beat tulsa or rice or both we go to a bowl game. The NO Bowl told a few of us down on the sideline that six wins gets us in. So, we go 6-6 or 7-5 we are going bowling. We should have beaten uh and we can still beat tu, or rice. Go Stangs.

What sucks, is that at the same time the Mustangs and Golden Hurricanes are doing battle, the biggest game of the year next to the title game will be on....Michigan @ Ohio State....1 vs. 2.....its really tempting to bail on the SMU game and watch that. At least it will be good football.

I hear the OSU and Michigan folks are just as upset that they can not see the SMU/Tulsa game. It is all relative to where you are.

Basically, Rice has owned us the last 4 years except last year's 1-10 Rice team

Tulsa will either win because they are better, or PB will go for 2 when he doesn't have to and lose it like he almost did 2 years ago.

Therefore 5-7

Now, I think we CAN win those two games, but I am just flipping cards and playing the odds.

I don't think we can't or won't beat Tulsa and/or Rice. But there were a whole lot of marbles on the Houston game. That'll happen when you lose to NTSU.

We also had 11 days to prepare for them, and had them at home. What else could you ask for late in the season? Once again......just couldn't get the job done. With this weak schedule, it's very sad to be sitting here 5-5 in November.

I think we can beat Tulsa..

We played Houston tougher than they did.. but I I think jt is right.. no expectations is the way to go. I've invested so much emotion into this program and I just can't do it anymore.

Let's just hope PB gets the team prepared like he did against Houston.. that was a great gameplan, and other than a few questionable (yet typical) 3rd/4th and short calls.. it was an outstanding coaching job by the staff.

It comes down to talent, and we did not have an answer for Aldridge. Tulsa doesn't have any spectacular players, but they have a great coach and play well as a team with the talent they do have (much like us). Their D is superb, but even they had no answer for Aldridge.. and I've never been too thrilled with their offense.

So. Here's to beating Tulsa and getting to 6-5. One game at a time folks.. and the team's back is REALLY against the wall now. I'm predicting a lot of emotion and lot of intensity. GO STANGS.

Stallion, you seem a bit "calmer" these days? What's up? Did not see you at the 25th. party...the Phi Kiya's were represented, however. The Beta's had something like 27 of their 35 member 1978 pledge class there, pretty amazing.

I enjoyed the "game day" experience despite the stinky as crap L. Nice crowd, some big / cool plays, saw some talent.....but, just like back in the "Tommy Rossely" days, can't handle that 4th. quarter.....oh well, maybe next year. BEAT TU!!

June through September (unrealistic preseason expectations) and December through February (rationalizations of poor recruiting classes) are generally the months I get the most disgusted. October through November is Blame the Coach Season which I generally avoid. Homecoming has never been a big deal for me since I live in Dallas and every game is Homecoming.
