Nice Game RecapMy guess will be that this recap from the Bloomington Illinois paper will be much more in depth than what we will get from the DMN on a Monday Cowboys lovefest. Really nice coverage....Click to Enjoy......

...actually, there is already a pretty good recap up on dallasnews.com by The Hair
Uhm.. we barely beat a team picked to finish NINTH in the MVC. Awesome.
Why should I be excited again?
Missouri Valley Conf was super-tough last year--lots of NCAA teams and several near entrants. Suspect ISU will rebound strongly this year with those JUCO All-Americans they brought in.
Played well for middle half/2/3 of game. Blew the 11-point lead but came back to get the W. Team will have to learn to win, put teams away and expect to win, which won't come immediately
Again, we are going to struggle to score points on most nights. There just isn’t a proven score at the college level on this roster. Really, there are only two guys on this team that put up big numbers in high school, Roberts and Dez. We will probably be involved in a lot of ugly, low scoring games.
If we play good defense, the scoring will take care of itself. Remember, we held the Redbirds to 35 percent shooting. That's going to win you a lot of basketball games.
We don't have to be great offensively. But if we are consistent in the other two effort areas -- rebounding and defense -- then we'll get more wins than people will expect.
We don't have to have a big time scorers to win. Doh will count on all
of the players to play as a team and the scoring will be spread out among several players. Notice that Pearson,l Dez, and Roberts did not have good scoring games and all three had games where they his 20 or more last year. Many of you have forgotten that Pearson had some good scoring games last year as did Roberts. Pearson 16 vs La.Monroe; 26 vs. Centenary; 14 vs. Long Island U; and between 10 and 15 on numerous occasions. Roberts had 19 vs. La Monroe; 17 vs. Toledo; 20 vs. Texas State; 19 vs. Hardin Simmons; 17 vs. UTEP; 22 vs. Rice; and 17 vs. Houston. Dez had 19 vs. Okla St; and had 10-15 on several occasions including 2 games where he had winning 3 pt shots. Epps may be our best shooter - I hope he can get back to playing in the rotation. If the 3 big men can keep it up and Dez, Roberts, & Pearson each step up at different times - our scoring will be OK. Killen didn't score much but had good assists to our big men and had 4-5 steals in the game. On defense it sounded like he was all over the place. This is not a great team - but I think it will be an improved team. And I say this even having been one of Tubbs' biggest supporters.
I still never understood you guys and your man-love for Tubbs. The guy was a joke, and never was a proven coach, only a recruiter.. and he certainly didn't recruit for [deleted].. not legally anyway. Copeland was a clown compared to Orsini. Living 3 miles from UCF, I'm seeing what Orsini began here.. UCF football will not stay down long.. these new facilities they are building are BEAUTIFUL. I can't wait to see them completed.
I realize that any one of several guys (Pearson, Roberts, Dez or Ike) can have a good scoring night, but none of them have proven they can do it consistently. I really thought Roberts was going to be that guy?? And there is no doubt that Epps is the best shooter on the team. I’ve watched him closely at a couple of practices and the guy can flat-out shoot......free throws and 3s. Is he injured? He didn't play last night.
The ISU local story on the game indicated that our two tallest players were in foul trouble as they made their run at the end.
Look for a lot of teams to try to work the ball inside on us, early and often, as we do not have much bench. ![]() Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
LA -
Epps has been hurt ever since he's been here. I believe I heard that he has a hamstring problem and those are tough to heal. I think he also understands the game and is a competitor; unfortunately, we haven't seen him much because of his injury (or injuries). My point again - is that we will get "team scoring" and it will be more well balanced. We won't need a 20 point scorer to win if our defense is good. But - we might get 20 at any time from any of about 6 people.
I thought it might be a hamstring. At practice I noticed he was held out of the 5-on-5 drills, but he had no noticeable limp or injury. I went mainly to see Cam Spencer, but Epps shooting ability is what caught my attention. He shoots the ball with confidence and has perfect form. They have a drill where they shoot ten free throws and run for the ones they miss.....during the time I was there he went 29 of 30. He’s just as adept from the 3 point line as well. If healthy, he could be a huge asset to this team.
He started off cold last year but toward the end he started really draining the threes. He was big in our last regular season game against Rice.
Will be nice to get Epps back out there, he is a good shooter with good size. Womack + Wishbone = Heisman
