Bowl Probabilities...PLEASE help!

Postby rogershealy » Sun Nov 19, 2006 9:06 pm

I know that there is much speculation that SMU will be playing in the NO Bowl, but what are the other possibilities?

I'm hoping we can play somewhere legit...other than Ft Worth.

Any help is much appreciated.

Scroll down a little and read any of a number of threads where this has been discussed already.

Well exempting at-large bids from conferences that don't fill their bowls, which is really hard to predict given some teams will go to BCS bowls, we have 5 different bowls we are eligible for:

Liberty Bowl - This is usually where the C-USA champ plays.

GMAC Bowl - Not exclusive to the C-USA runner up, but since it's in Mobile I would bet it takes a C-USA East team.

PapaJohns.com Bowl (Birmingham Bowl) - Will probably take the other C-USA East team because of proximity to the east coast.

Armed Services Bowl - Could pit us against TCU, which is a rather exciting prospect, in my opinion.

R+L Carriers Bowl - Would be against a Sun Belt team (most likely MTSU) and is lowest in terms of bowls.

We really aren't in a position to be too picky about bowls. No one thought we would be even in this position after losing to UNT. This is also our first legit bowl chance since the DP. I will be happy if we make history and make a bowl game. Next year we can worry about C-USA championship and Liberty Bowl.

INCORRECT, any bowl is a good bolw but the NO bowl is no longer the worst bowl. 2 new bowls were added that will be played before the NO bowl. Just because we play someone from the SUNBELT (champion) doesn't mean it won't be a good bowl game. We did lose to the Sunbelts UNT.
