Fort Worth Bowl

Right now cfn is projecting TCU and Rice in the Fort Worth Bowl. Should SMU win this weekend, would they get that bid? If so, that would be awesome.

I agree that this is the best scenario. The Froggies don't want to play us as they feel this is a "down" season with a "down" bowl year, there will be some good local hype from the media on the matchup and the SMU "story," and we will bring 5,000+ to Fort Worth versus 500 to NO or anywhere else.

The Ft. Worth Bowl will get their choice of the loser of the championship, Tulsa, or the winner of our game. Should the East team lose the championship, I would expect them to be more favorable to Birmingham or Mobile.

I don't know if Ft. Worth would rather have Tulsa or SMU/Rice, but they may be holding out on the off chance that Houston loses the championship.

Aside from the fact that we'd be stuck at our home field for a bowl game with a 10-2 record, I really believe that if we didn't play SMU basically every year then TCU fans would have more interest in this bowl matchup. It just doesn't make sense to play an annual rival in a bowl game. I also think TCU fans in general would be more fired up if SMU had a better record of maybe 9-3 or 10-2. As it is, playing a non-BCS team with a 7-5 record really sets us up for a letdown.

Yep, you have the same attitude that a former Froggie player I work with has. While this prospect may stink initially for toad fans, I think anytime the area is buzzing about both schools, that is a GOOD thing.

I cant see how the Ft. Worth Bowl could pass us up when we beat rice. The media coverage around two rival teams playing in a bowl would be too great. Seems like a good fit, although N.O. would be a lot of fun. Go Stangs.

I'm just being honest and I did say TCU fans in general. I'll be there no matter who TCU plays. Do you not agree that it would be much more meaningful if we didn't play each other every year? Also, if SMU were sitting at 10-2, would you rather play a BCS school in a bowl game or a 7-5 non-BCS team? To me, it doesn't have anything to do with it being SMU...I would feel the same way about Rice or the MAC schools that we could face in the Poinsettia Bowl. Put yourself in our shoes....we have nothing to gain by playing a 7-5 SMU or Rice. (Not saying we are a better team because we could easily lose to anyone!)

Does it help you any that the two schools didn't play this year. AND, the fact that the last time we did play, SMU ruined a perfect TCU season? I would think in most years, the game would have little or no appeal. However, this year, it should ge juices running a bit more. I would alos expect SMU would 'travel' better than any opf the other prospects. I would hope the Mustangs could make a better showing than SDSU.

The above description by one of their fans is pretty much sums up what and who they are. And this is why I don't want anything to do with their school, especially when they have kiss-a$$e$ like Schill Lebreton writing on their behalf.

Schill just basically is Gary Patterson's mouthpiece.

I have no time for TCU.

Um, not to be rude, but TCU has little to gain regardless.

And, except for the fact that we haven't been to a bowl in a long time, playing TCU in Ft. Worth is not exactly a life long dream for us either.

But its a start.

SMU and TCU will not be contesting against each other this year; our athletics department and bowl officials [TCU affiliated] confirm this conjecture. Honestly, and with all respects, playing a 7-5 CUSA, specifically Southern Methodist, would not be a contest worth watching on the Texas Christian side. We've earned much better--knocking off two Big 12 opponents [4 of 4 in the last two years] and losing just two conference games [namely because our quarterback had a screwed-up throwing arm] deserves respect. One day, Southern Methodist will be in this same position--one day, Southern Methodist will go 11-1 and realize how [deleted] up the Bowl Championship System really is.

Congratulations on your [almost] bowl tie-in; you've earned it. However, let our players go out of town with their 10-2 record this post-season. There is absolutely no reason they should be playing on their home-turf this post-season, expecially with that record.

Concerning traveling: papa gots' it right up there. Southern Methodist brings 5,000 [TPS] to the Fort Worth Bowl and 500 to an out-of-state bowl.

Proove me wrong, but we know that's what's going to happen.

Hmm, had no idea tcu athletic adminstrators/insiders not only read this site but also post on it.
