Phil Bennet on NormGreat 10-15 minute talk.
From Phil (all of this is paraphrasing) Re our bowl: If we lose and ECU loses to NC State, we have a bowl bid waiting for us (I can only assume NO -- Props to BR on that). That leads me to think the other potential 6-6 teams in CUSA are out of it. Re his situation: He has he has a great sense of blocking all of those other things out and focusing on coaching his team. Re his team in the second half against Tulsa: They were calm and talked about getting the ball back and that teaching was the theme. Re recruiting: Phil said we have 8 commitments. That's opposed to the six that we know about. Looks like the DMN or the recruiting services are going to have to do some digging. Re bowl and playoff: He's a playoff advocate and thinks there is a way to do the bowls and the playoffs. It's been about 11 hours since the interview happened, so I'm trying my best to get the word out.
Yes, but... Go Ponies!!! Let's not have to worry about NC State having to win. ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
Miami just became Bowl eligible so that takes the Smurf Turf Bowl (MPC) in Boise out of action since ACC has to send a team there. UVA is on the clock. If they beat Va Tech they're bowl eligible. So, we need to win. Anything less risks not getting a bowl bid.
Norm mentioned the possibility of having some 76 bowl eligible teams with only 29 bowl games...this means 58 teams will be chosen for a bowl game, leaving 18 teams eligible without post season play...
Want to go to a bowl? Show up to Houston and watch SMU beat Rice to ensure a bid!
a member of the Ticket being wrong? NOOOO
IM looking for ANY BOWL...
Re: Phil Bennet on Norm
I hope the team didn't hear this. It might take the urgency to win out of the game, which could hurt their performance. It would have been better if he had kept this to himself! ![]()
