THANKS MUSTANGS: 2006 was one heckova ride!

Post by Webmaster »

I don't usually get on the PF boards and editorialize. Rather, I try to stay completely neutral and impartial to all sides (keeping stalkers to a minimum).

But now that I've had a chance to get the initial crushing despair of the loss to Rice out of my system, I do feel it's important to break in and congratulate the Mustangs on one hellova run. Seriously. This team came a long way in '06. With the exception of Texas Tech and the brain fart at UNT, we were competitive in every game. We were 5-1 in Ford, and the Mustangs had the fans on their feet more often than not.

I know the season didn't end like anybody wanted, but this is the first season I can recall that was... Really... Fun...

And if we can patch up the defensive line and get our running backs healthy, maybe we can make another run at a Conference Championship and a bowl in '07.

But continue to speculate your little hearts out. We'll probably hit half a millions hits today (real stat), which is good for business.

But for my part, I'd like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the Mustangs -- players, coaches, trainers, cheerleaders, dance team, and the great Mustang Band -- for one heckova year.

Now I'm mostly bummed because fall is 9 months away.

GO MUSTANGS!

Thanks to the PonyParents who sent their great sons to SMU.

And take solace, Webmaster, spring ball is only four months away!

Great post. It's nice to see something besides the speculation of the new head coach on this board today. While I am pretty new to this board, and to Mustang Football, I can say I did enjoy watching and following the games this year, even though things could have ended better.

Great post. As a senior on the hilltop and leaving in May, I am quite pleased at the turn around from an 0-12 freshmen year to a 6-6 senior year. While I don't agree with the coaching decisions, especially at key moments this year that could have put this ball club 8-4 and bowling, I am proud of what this team accomplished. I am already excited for spring ball to see how this defense will shape up, as they will be the make-or-break factor for next season.

Enjoyed this year more than most! 6-6 was not what I hoped for, but they made progress and will still have some key pleyers in place for next year.

Go Stangs!
Sports, and all that implies.

Webmaster: thanks for all that you do! I agree with you 100%.

Just curious: earlier this season a poll was posted on the site on what people thought the Mustangs' record would be this year. What were the results of that poll and how close did the Mustangs get to what the majority predicted?

Thanks!

I was going to post something similar to this. First year I have been able to make it to every home game (and one soul-crushing road game) and I had a ton of fun. Can't believe some of these guys are already graduating. I am going to miss this team.

Agreed - in the 8 games I made it to this year, this year's Mustang team was BY FAR the most entertaining and most fun to watch of any year I can remember. Breaks my heart that the season is over, and that these seniors are graduating. Best of luck to this year's senior class, and to the returning Ponies!

This team was the most exciting in several years.

When the season started, I don't think many believed SMU would still be in the hunt to win the West with 3 games to go.

Hopefully, this team has set a solid foundation that the next team can build upon.
