Get behind Bennett

Postby MustangIcon » Tue Nov 28, 2006 3:46 pm

I for one did not think Bennett earned a 6th season as headcoach at SMU based on his performance in his tenure here. However, now that I know he is coming back I plan to continue to give my full support to Bennett and the SMU Football program as I hope everyone else will also do, regardless of where they stood on the issue. Hopefully PB will take a big step forward this season, lead SMU to its first bowl PDP, and prove those of us that doubted him wrong.

(I am still hoping Burns is gone though.)

I agree. He's our newly reanointed commander in chief. If you're pro-SMU football (guess that could be an 80s double entendre), you are pro-PB. So as of now I'm pro PB.

I also think it would be nice if there's a new OC in the offing. If not, I suppose we'll need to be pro Rusty, too.

Congrats, Phil. Here's to hoping you bring in a new OC who has a few plays in his book involving a FB for goal-line situations (and a son in the mold of Joe Sturdivant who's beginning college next year).

I have already given support and endured no winning seasons or bowl games. I support no more.

C-YA and good riddance to someone who apparently had their surprise taken out of the cereal.

You should be so proud of your behavior. There was a reason you became a fan of SMU. Now, with one coaching decsion...poof, you're outta here.

OK. You have fun cheering for somebody else. Deep down you'll miss it if you were the fan you claimed you were.

I'm excited to see what we can do next year. While I was disappointed with the outcome of the season, I am glad that PB is still going to be around. I was cheering for him the entire season. While we didn't win half of our games, this year was one of the first years since my freshman year (1997) that I truly felt we could win almost every game.

I'm looking forward to next year. The team and coaches learned some hard lessons this year. If some changes need to be made on the coaching staff, let's do what is needed. Team, work hard in the off-season. I will be there next year, as always, cheering you on.

Phil earned another year.

He took the worst program in college football and has at least put SMU in position to go bowling.

I like Rice. They showed me this season yet another example of what is possible for a football program similar to that of SMU. Hopefully next season we will be where they are. With a winning record, in a bowl, competeing well in conference and playing an OOC you wouldn't be embarrassed to discuss in front of your football buddies.

I'll give MustangIcon a prop. He didn't have to come out and say this and he did. Bennett is here, you can either support the man or go root for the Cowboys until they start losing again.

I'll go root for the Cowboys. I will be back here or in your faces at the last game next year when we have a losing record.

Are you really that pathetic of an individual? Is that what you strive for in life? To be the bitter cynic who has to prove that he was right just attain a shred of self-worth? You make little children cry.

Please join us if we go Bowling too! After all it's not about who is right and who is wrong, it's about finally having a winning program.

I think we all need to support Coach Phil
by rallying around him and this team.

What good would it do to withdraw support now that
a decision has been made?

See ya next year Billy Joe . . . hopefully not under the circumstances you are talking about, but I know if we are winning, you may show up and eat some crow . . . or maybe not.
Sports, and all that implies.
