Completely Underwhelmed

Postby FordtoTolbert » Tue Nov 28, 2006 9:30 pm

17-42..Phils' in, Phil's out, we are buying him out, we are not buying him out, saw Phil at the bball game, no Orsisni or Turner....oohhh, what does that mean? We are falling behind our "natural and traditional rivals", support the team, [deleted] the team, [deleted] crowds, GREAT crowd, best team ever, worse team ever, easy schedule / why not better..best team we have had since DP. Win, loss, win, loss, win, loss...

Somebody posted, "Great run, fellas, THANKS!" I say, [deleted]...6-6 vs. one of the absolute weakest D-I schedules EVER...

I think either SMU does not have the $$$$ to buy out Phil, OR, Orsini has not yet ID'd his "ideal" candidate. There is NO reason to be bringing back Bennett, otherwise.

I say, thanks for another manic depressive freakin' journey.

Three cheers for a .288 winning %..rah, rah, yeah.....

I'm offended by your use of the word [deleted] and think it makes you look unintelligent. Jesus thinks so too.

a year ago his record was 11-36...were you calling for him to be fired after a 3 game win streak? By the way...the win percentage before this year was .234

The alums that would buy out Bennett DO have the money. Gerald Ford isn't on the Forbes 400 list because he is pennyless. This would be pocket change for him given his listed $1.5 Billion net worth. (That is BILLION with a "B". Just a 5% return on that amount of money is "only" $75 MILLION BUCKS a year! That can buy a LOT of coaches!

That is all well and good, but I'm still offended. Who is going to lick my nuts and tell me everything is going to be better?

Sounds like a job for your wife/girfriend (or your boyfriend, not that there's anything wrong with that).

That is the trouble with those who don't have the money but have strong opinions. They are cavalier with shaking down those people who do have the money (see Rainbow Coalition), or they make blithe commitments for those who do have the money to meet them. (Ponymon, this isn't directed at you, but is a pretty good catalyst for something I wanted to say...)

I'm not going to ignore Coach Bennett's struggles with this program; however, as others have suggested, it isn't all about Phil Bennett. Despite the deep pockets attitude of most SMU kids, parents, and alumni, it isn't that simple nor easy to just 'go ask Gerry Ford'. He and his contemporaries are not obligated to give SMU anything; furthermore, if they did choose to give money, then I can think of plenty of uses for it in the middle of a campaign to build a basketball practice facility and other projects on campus. Do the tactics concerning a football coach line up with the practical reality that the school has that has to deal with more than just football? He should have gone to a bowl. If indeed one of the reasons, or the main reason, that Bennett has another year is b/c of money, and you don't like it, then frankly, you should stop being cavalier with Ford's money and pony up (no pun intended) coin of your own toward the generally accepted end of getting a better/more expensive coach.

Would somebody please tell me how in the Sam Hill a person gets "black horseshoes"?

Perhaps it is because I do not have thousands of posts on here despite having one of the earliest join dates of active types currently on this board, but I have no clue what you are talking about, raplh. :?
