Matt Doherty...
He is going to take the same team from last year and improve them just by being able to evaluate the talent and see who should be playing. Ike averaged 15 min a game scoring just 3.8 pts a game...and only attepmted 1 3-pointer all season...
I like IKE
not to mention the play of Killen and Pearson...this team continues to impress me and I say if we played FSU on the second night and not the third we would have beaten them

Yes - the players did not improve by themselves. Killen just woke up one day and he was better

that wasnt the point...the point was that now we have a coach who can see and utilize a player's assests rather than telling them they have to do it a certain way...and if they cant do it that way they cant get minutes

kileen does not deserve to be on any poll until he shows he can break a press - it will be ugly as soon as we play someone with a decent defensive guard.

so if we don't break a press - it is Killen's fault - but if we do is because Doh showed the team how or maybe it will be because he "saw" a good ballhandler

Well let's break a press first and then we'll sort through why it happened.

I can't believe 3 people have actually voted for Rack. Must not have seen any games the past three years.

What was the question? Most improved? Most valuable?
If the past is used as a basis for voting, would Ike get any votes, either? He was under-used, apparently, before this year, but now he looks like a monster.

You have a good point asking what we are voting for, but for me the Rack would get 0 points for both. In Ike's case history doesn't count because of lack of minutes, but Iv'e watched Rack play alot of basketball the past 3 years and he just doesn't have much talent. He seems like a great kid and he certainly plays hard, but lets get real.

Doherty seems to think he can play.
I'll go with that, until I see reason to believe otherwise (although, to be fair, your assessment of his earlier years is dead-on).

Question for ponyup10:
At the top of the poll, it says "MVP" and the title of the thread is "Two Words" -- how is "MVP" two words?

Doherty is playing the hand he was dealt. I'm sure he appreciates Racks effort and height, and I think it is a good strategy to try and boost the teams confidence by telling them they are better players than the pre-season pics suggested. I'll give Rack a vote for most improved this year if he learns how to make a layup or any other move that puts the ball in the basket when he has the ball under the basket.
