The Heisman Memorial TrophyYes i know none of the ponies this year are up for the Heisman and no, this is not a thread for Willis for Heisman...But i just wanted to know what is everyones take on this years award.
Hopefully the webmasters will keep this thread up since there is not much to talk about on the SMU football front....Do you think anyone has a chance to beat out TROY SMITH or will this be the biggest blowout in Heisman history... Who wins the heisman???
The discussion starts and ends with Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith. Everybody else is playing for the runner-up role. I hope McFadden finishes ahead of the overrated Brady Quinn. McFadden did everything to help his team against LSU. Quinn did everything to screw it up for his team against USC.
Agreed, it is just a matter of HOW MUCH will Smith win by...i think Quinn doesnt even crack the top 3...
Troy Smith, Darren McFadden, Colt Brennan, Brady Quinn, Steve Slaton.
The sad thing is Troy Smith would probably not win it any other year. This is one of the worst years ever in terms of competition for the Heisman.
I wouldnt exactly say that because Troy is a great athlete who turns busted plays into huge gains. He went from a running qb to a pocket passer in one year. Just because there is no 'reggie bush' doesnt mean this is the worst year in terms of competition. I remember most sports people were saying this was Brady Quinns award but they were all wrong. There are 2 great non-BCS conference players in the Heisman mix and that is a good thing in my opinion.
i think that is a sign of a weak year, or are you telling me that the BCS confrences are getting so deep in players that incredible athletes are pooring into non-BCS confrences...I think these kids are more diamonds in the rough more than anything
i'm not a huge notre dame fan, but to say that brady quinn screwed everything up against usc is stupid. i'm not sure any qb including troy smith could handle that 'sc defense in LA...im dying to see the trojans put that OVERRATED BIG TEN (excluding ginn jr./buckeye defense) team to rest...lol lets hear it big10ponyfan
This isn't 3 yards and a cloud of dust, and if you think the Buckeyes are a bunch of slow-trodding fellas, then you haven't watched them. That's fine that you are pullint for USC. And I wouldn't call USC's defense exactly a smothering unit. I guess we'll find out on Jan. 8 in Glendale, Ariz. But those boys better take care of UCLA first. And Brady Quinn did screw everything up for his team because he missed wide open receivers and didn't take advantage of the punt block and two other Trojan turnovers on USC's half of the field in the first half.
The man has a point. However, I was at the game, and SEVERAL of his passes were dropped. The game was never really that close though, despite the punt block and John David's 2 (consecutive) INT's. From the beginning, you could tell the game would be quite different from last year's.
USC and OSU would be a fun match-up, I think. You say the SC defense isn't "smothering" but you have to understand they have ONE graduating senior starter. That team is so full of freshmen and sophomores, it's unreal. If it doesn't happen this year, look out in '07. Beat Fucla. GO MUSTANGS!
FIGHT ON!
