Craig James was Rooting for Rice!!

Postby Dwan » Thu Nov 30, 2006 2:24 pm

From his Espn Chat. F that Guy I say

ouston, TX): Missed you at Rice Stadium last weekend! Sorry bout your Mustangs, but they were between the Owls and a bowl for the first time in 45 years. GO OWLS!!! Question: what do you think of Jarett Dillard and his potential future in the NFL?

SportsNation Craig James: (2:02 PM ET ) How bout them Owls! I was really happy for new coach Todd Graham. Even though it was against SMU...it just goes to show you what a good coach can do even in his first season. I hope the Owls keep things going well.

I need in eye roll or a history of your postings to see if you are being sarcastic, but I will post assuming you were serious.

Give me a f--king break! He said he was happy for the Owls even though it was against SMU. He didn't say he was rooting against us. I am certain he was rooting for SMU (unless he wanted PB to lose and get fired so we could get another coach). I am happy for the Owls too. They have sucked for a long time, much like us, and if they can win it shows we can too. From 1-10 to 7-5 and in a bowl for the first time since 1961. How can you not be happy for a team like that?

then he said this....I love him now!!!

le: Did the Hogs get robbed in 1982, in SMU game on that "pass interference" call made by SWC official Horton Nefstra?

SportsNation Craig James: (2:27 PM ET ) GREATEST call I've ever seen. Still miffs Holtz and he tells me about it annually.

Hey I was devastated but after watching Rice for 40 years and knowing just what a struggle for Rice this has been over the last 45 years I actually gave them a moment of applause when they were rushing the field. That is what college football is about. Someday we may get those same accolades from Dickie Moegle. If you don't know don't ask. Nice try to fan the anti-Craig James flame.

I don't sense negativity on his part towards SMU. Rice's turnaround under first-year Coach Todd Graham is indisputable. He wants SMU to do well and thinks that SMU can do a lot better than it has. He is also supportive of Rice and there is nothing wrong with that. I just get the feeling from this posting and his comments on ABC earlier in the season that he is definitely not a Bennett-backer--whether you consider that bashing SMU or not is up to you.

I'm happy for my Owl buds. A lot of them are stoked about going to NO. It's almost two generations since Rice has to been a bowl......

At least some of us were alive when SMU appeared in a bowl.

No doubt, I am in my 40s and this is the first bowl game for Rice in my lifetime. Good for them!

James is clearly not a big Bennett fan. He made several comments during the UAB game that suggested coaching was an issue at SMU. Of course, we gave him plenty of ammunition with that "frozen OL" as UAB's DL was taking free shots at Willis just so we could help the officials make the offsides call.

In the book "A Payroll to Meet", I don't think James was ever mentioned as being in on the take.

But he's still an [deleted].
