About this time (10:30am) we were closing in on the Houston city limits. I had been so fired up about the game all week, I could hardly sleep the last few day's. With Rice starting their backup qb,(an option qb) I felt pretty good about our chances. During the week, speculating about which bowl we were going to, and looking at hotels in NO was a blast. We all thought, even if we lose to Rice, we can console ourselves with going to the NO Bowl, and the many benefits it brings to the program. Not to mention, the three weeks of valuable evaluation and practice time our coaches would get with our younger players. BOOM!!!!!! We get a great big bag a nothin'!!!!!! I guess this is the post season no bowl again blues! I
guess mabey it's my age, but since the dp, I can't remember having this much difficulty getting over a game. Man, what a drop kick to the lower region! I like a couple these analogies by previous posters......."i would like to go to a bowl before they drop me off at Sparkman Funeral home!") and ("i feel like the groom, that has ONCE again been tricked into showing up at the altar, only to be stood up again") I have tons of faith in Steve Orsini, but I would love to see my Stangs go bowling before they drop me off at the county morgue! Where's my airplane glue!!!

Haha, exactly man. I was so anxious for this game all that week and I spent all afternoon following it while watching football. When we lost I got so angry. But I am over now (I think) and am looking forward to what the spring game will hold.

I hear you.
Think back to August. Anybody think we'd lose to UNT, Rice and not have a winning season?
We expended a great deal of hope this year. It's tough.

Correct. You finally got that we went .500, neither winning nor losing.

Although I am a most optimistic person and have yet to succumb to the jtstang theory of no expectations, I would say that even though we had a .500 season, we LOST a chance at a winning season, we LOST a chance at a bowl game, we LOST a chance to play in the Conference Championship game, we LOST a chance for an additional 30 days of practice, and we LOST a chance at national exposure that could have enhanced recruiting. On that basis I see this year as a losing season. I do not want this to repeat next year.

I know...not trying to give you a hard time. The whole point of this thread is that it was just one week ago that we all felt SO MUCH BETTER about the state of SMU football. Now we have to wait until the end of next September...at least...to have a clue as to where we stand.
