No, they didn't go effedtively 5-6. They went 6-6; I'm tired of everyone dismissing that one game against SHSU, a I-AA team. When people mention Florida's record they don't say that they went 11-1 "effectively". because they played Western Carolina. Their record is 12-1 and we're 6-6. Plenty of teams schedule a I-aa team and some win and some lose, BUT THEY ALL COUNT.

A small point, but it's irritating to hear people say we went 5-6. You don't hear people saying that Colorado went 2-9 because their LOSS to I-AA Montana St. doesn't count do you? No- they went 2-10.
Here's to those that wish us well and all the rest can go to hell!!!

I think the argument of excluding the STFU game would have more merit if it had been a squeeker. How many of us wen't to Ford that night thinking "Well hell, they could easily lose this game"? Having it be an embarrasing blowout in the other direction was exactly what this team needed when they needed it. It gave us all something to cheer about after the disaster in Denton. But more than anything, the Mustangs beat a Iaa team like a drum which is what they should have done.

here's another irritating point to you people that actually think 6-6 against this schedule is good-how many SMU teams in the last 17 years would have been bowl eligible or in fact have gone to a bowl playing this year's SMU schedule-I'd say about 5 or 6 SMU teams.

Which, of course, is something that can never be proven or disproved.

Who said 6-6 was good? All I saw was comments about how it's better than it was before.

and USC would have gone undefeated this year with reggie bush... whats ur point? we went 6-6, we had an easy schedule, the kind of schedule we needed with a young qb, and with a team that is trying to gain some confidence

If you discount the SHSU win you you would need to discount UT's win over the very same SHSU as well. While your at it South Carolina shouldn't even be bowl eligible look at who they beat. Out of all their wins the only one that "counts" is the Clemson game.

Only in the win column, we lost the same number as last year.

Frankly I'm tired of you people who continually think that 6-6 was a bad year. WE HAD A GOOD YEAR, AND IT CAN ONLY GET BETTER!!!! If I recollect correctly you are the same people who felt back in June and July we were a horrible team who would only win 4 or 5 games because of our short freshman QB, our terrible kicking game, our undersized linebackers, and our inexperienced secondary. So let's take a look at what really happened this year.

1. Our (short) freshman QB was second in passing in the conference behind Kevin Kolb and was named Freshman of the Year! Way to go J-Will

2. Our kicking game (punting) was first in the conference

3. Our run defense was first in the conference

4. Although our secondary got off to a slow start they did improve towards the end of the year and finished 9th in the conference.

All this accomplished with a very young team. I'm not going to list all the names but most of the skill positions are returning next year. The QB has a year under his belt, the kicking game shouldn't be a worry, the secondary (corners) should improve, and the run game should be better this year. Remember we basically had no run game this year which could have made a big difference in some of those games we lost in the 4th quarter. (UTEP, Houston, Rice).

Anyway, I've said all this to say, you old pessimistics didn't expect much from the team this year because of the youth and inexperience and PB went out and got 6 wins with those inexperienced players. Should have been more wins, could have been more wins, but that's what you'll get with more experienced players, which we will have next year. So STOP complaining about the 6-6 record and remember you expected worse.

Next year should be the year to go over the hump. GO PONIES!!!!!!

A loss is a loss and a win is a win regardless of how you try to spin it.

Who are you? And in fact you are completely inaccurate-about 80-85% on this board thought this team would go 7-5+. In fact, with this schedule this was not a very good football team Its about the 90th best football team in the country-we beat one football team in the Top 100 in the Nation and lost to the 154th best team in the country according to Sagarin-by my definition that's not very good. Good scheduling though.

haha whatever you say... we were 6-6 i dont take any wins for granted, however this argument that SC should not be in a bowl game at 6-6 is stupid. look at who we lost to, and look at who they lost to, and the point totals from the losses

You're right, it was better than the previous year. But only in the win column, and we had a d-2 team to play to help beef that up.
