Re: UTEP, Tulsa, UH, & Rice
When Rice can go to a bowl in the first season under a new coach who inherited a weak, losing team, then you have got to ask why can't SMU do as well as the Owls. Every excuse we have used for the ponies could easily have been applied to Rice. They went 7-5 and we should have too. We have seen what new coaches were able to do at UTEP, Tulsa, and Houston after they took over losing teams, and they did it quickly too. By the way, the Houston Chronicle gives lavish sports coverage to their two CUSA schools, unlike the DMN. Houston has the same pro sports competition for the entertainment headlines as Dallas, yet the coverage is much different. Things are better at other schools and other places. We just can't settle for less.
Which of those teams had the death penalty? They have had no bad press in the history of their programs. The first good press for each in a long time was a new coach. Of course they got there fast. Do you not think there is a curse on our program? This point is getting old though. Progress was made no matter how little. If you a-holes are right about PB then we'll see next year. If he fails to go at least 7-5 then can his [deleted]. Until then progress has been made and you guys have to shut up and watch for another year.
Re: UTEP, Tulsa, UH, & Rice
Shut up. The only thing the death penalty still holds on this program is YOU and others like you. Get over it, it happened 20 friggin' years ago, get over yourself. Sir, shooting-star, sir.

First there was the death penalty and then there were the Pye restrictions which in essence extended the death penalty for about 12 years. Assume that the death penalty ended five years ago for intents and purposes. Rice did not operate for the past decade under the same restrictions we had and we still have more than they have. They have athlete friendly majors, we don't. They can accept more transfer hours than us although I'll admit that's a much closer call. Either way, we are still trying to level the playing field.
Re: UTEP, Tulsa, UH, & Rice
Exaggerate much? Pretty much every school has had bad press at some point in their program.
I'll settled for a good pass defenseSince others have done better with less, I'll close by asking Santa to bring SMU a good pass defence and hope that will be enough to salvage next season when we play a stronger NC schedule.

Eaststang-I'm not sure there is much evidence that Rice accepts many transfers. I think they may have had 1 or 2 in BB but I did notice that they maybe going after a JUCO in football. That is very unusual and tells me Graham may have convinced Rice to make some more changes-but until they do I think its not really fair to label them like that. I just realized that Rice does take a lot of transfers in their Baseball program though but that is common in Baseball where they usually award partial scholarships.
Bus, are you saying it's easier to get into Rice than SMU for an athlete? YOU WANT THE TRUTH? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!
