Good point. The exception would be Texas Tech I guess. Didn't they have 3 5th-year seniors as their starting QB in 3 years??? It's not often that I say this, but maybe we could learn something from the coach.
so we should have road bartel out through the storm? or tate? or Phillips?

Not at all. I was making the point that the coach out in Lubbock somehow convinced his upperclassmen backups to stick it out and hopefully compete for a starting position someday, as opposed to transfer to a D2 school or get the band back together. Not all players need to stay, but the competitors will.
not completely accurate... Nathan Chandler of Southlake went to Tech, then left because he didn't want to wait to play... spent some time at a JC, and then transefered to Iowa where he started as a senior and was signed by the Bills... his brother Scott is a 6'7 tight end for them

Agreed. But then again, last time I checked we didn't exactly have a logjam of talent behind Willis. Or any other position for that matter.
true... but i wouldnt necessarily say techs qbs are amazing, just products of the system they are in... a lot of people say that about hawai'i too, but anybody who gets a chance to watch them play their QB the real Colt, is really exciting to watch

True, but you can't even say that the last 5 QB's we've had were even serviceable. I'd take the TTU QB's over anyone we've had between Ramon Flanigan and Justin Willis. Whether they were created by the system nonwithstanding, they were head and shoulders above the guys we've had back there. Sure they showed signs of potential at times, but I don't believe they would have been successful even in the system at TTU. Junior, out.....(of this thread. we should find a new thread to argue on)

Sonny Cumbie

Postby bigdaddy08091 » Tue Dec 05, 2006 5:14 pm

Sonny Cumbie is from my hometown. I watched him play HS football. He was good, but not recruited by any major university. He wanted to go to TT, because his parents did, and he wanted to major in a field that TT was known for AG Economics. He wanted to be a farmer or something. He said why not try out. He sit for three, maybe four years before starting and setting some numbers at TT. Product of the system, yes, but also not a product of the media in West Texas. If Sonny Cumbie and the Hays kid would have played in the metroplex, both would have been offered scholarships to many D-1 schools. We have to recruit deep in the heart of Texas, but we do not, and at the same time some children have the school picked out from birth. It has nothing to do with the team, it is the institution. My youngest son wants to go to TT, he is a 6-1 260 15 yr old DE in the metroplex. He wants to go to school close to his grandmother. He will easly be 6-3 290 coming out of HS. have we ever recruited anyone tha big in the last 22 years that was worth a [deleted]? My point is, it is the institution, not the program. Get the ADMIN out of the way and let PB do his job, with some support!!!!!!!!!!!!

Justin tried to do it all by himself, but with a tracker that wasn't possible. He needed to realize that and start getting rid of the ball to his TE or running back. Hopefully, next year he will let some of the other threats on the team have a chance. If not, sooner or later he is going to get nailed and we might have to take the redshirt off of Turner!

True-- their defensive scheme was perfect in keeping Willis from running for multiple 1st downs as he did in our prior wins.

Who's the 2007 QB coach?

What was the score at half time. Simple fans, it's feast or famine with the QB. One of the hardest things to do when you think you are a football know it all, is to concentrate on any aspect of the game, besides where the ball is. Everyone does it, as well as I. Try it? We were winning at half time. J-Will and a spy had nothing to do with the loss. His turnovers, maybe, no blocking maybe, lack of pass coverage on a damn good receiver maybe. Focus on the entire picture. The game SHOULD (shoulda, coulda) not have been close, but that is the curse of SMU. The curse is over people, starting this spring. Attitudes will change and moves will be made, because we have the talent and PB has no choice! He has to win.
