...A date which will live in infamy. The United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces by the empire of Japan....

....we will gain the inevitable triumph. So help us God.!!''
-- President Franklin Roosevelt before a joint session of congress
Dec. 8, 1941

It's probably a safe bet that for the oldtimers on this board, they were babies when this occurred. My dad was coming out of church when he heard what happened at Pearl Harbor. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted.

If you have any stories from older, and now deceased relatives, it would be interesting to hear.

It's too bad that we don't give this day the solemnity it deserves. I was at the Arizona Memorial in 1979. Very gripping.

I was there in May. Still a pretty somber place 55 years later.

the movie was awesome, and by awesome i mean the 40 minute attack sequence. other than that you can just put on the mute button.

sad day though. i can't wait til someone makes an actual movie based on it, not some sappy love story.

You know what's interesting is that oil will rise to the surface every now and then. Think about that that we lost about 2,300 men in very little time.

If anyone didn't know, the silver lining to that day was that we had two aircraft carriers out to sea that day. The Japanese didn't know that and couldn't track them. I think it was the Enterprise and the Hornet.

God help us if they had been in the harbor.

If you want to watch some good movies about Pearl Harbor, watch Tora! Tora! Tora!, From Here to Eternity (yes, another love story but also a great movie!) and In Harm's Way.

Tora!ToraTora! is an all-time classic flick. I was there mid-December 2005, and the Arizona Memorial is an experience I will never forget. It took me 33 years to get there, but it was well worth the wait. Definitely something my children (assuming that happens) will see early on. God bless all those who have served and are currently serving.
