Houston Chronicle has a blog cited on Rice Fan Forum stated Terrence Ganaway has committed to Rice. Rice also picked up their first JUCO since Pocohontas in LM William Hinton 6-5, 295 5.2 from Ellisville(Ms)Jones County JC. You know quite frankly Rice has dominated SMU with one hand tied behind its back-what is it going to do if it actually tries to compete.

This is looking pretty bad, and kind of familiar. One ray of hope for Bennett is........Todd Graham probably won't be at Rice too long.

This should be used as a shot across the bow of the faculty at SMU who say that SMU should be D-III or not at all. They collectively couldn't hold Rice's faculty's jock, if they had one, and if Rice can recruit JUCOs, etc., then what the hell are we waiting for?

What ray of hope? If SMU does any worse, Bennett will be out before Graham were to leave Rice. And guess what? We are right back where we started. Another 4-5 year building process. At least a new coach would have a slightly easier time with JUCOs, etc. But then again....

Things look darkest before the dawn, but where the hell is the damn dawn!?!

I'm so pissed with the crappy recruiting this year (and the last few). I know I'm talking to a wall but it' just so frustrating when [deleted] Rice is poaching our recruits. Not only can Bennett not get good recruits to commit, but when he does catch lightning in a bottle he can't get the damn cap on.

Maybe he like their physics department. It's a no-brainer if you want to be a physicist.

Rice is the closest thing to Ivy League that Texas has. It's a no-brainer for all kinds of degrees and/or professions.

And they have a coach who did 'it', that is, coached a team from upside down to rightside up, in a single year. And a distinguished former UT leader, if not upstart coach, as offensive coordinator. And no distractions like metrosexual jock wannabes.

Malcolm Gillis, former president of Rice, essentially told McKinsey & Co. to kiss his [deleted] when presented with the dusted off regurgitation of what they wrote up for SMU circa 1991...that SMU (and Rice) should give up on Div-1A athletics and focus on liberal arts. And coming from a guy who chops wood to relax after discussing the finer points of global economics (PhD) in class, as well as a guy whose academic career began with a degree from a JUCO, I take him very seriously. (I interviewed the guy for Provost of SMU, and he would have very likely taken Pye's position after Pye retired, but SMU didn't have enough gravitas in the job--now, let that sink in real good.)

Turner and Orsini should stop the public relations bull[deleted] with "the Commitment", and they should decide come hell or high water that the university is telling the faculty senate as well as McKinsey to kiss its collective [deleted].

Okay, I admit that this is way too Stallionian of me, but when a guy is right, he is right. It doesn't matter if he sounds irritatingly indignant about it. Here is the catch. Rice has better academics that SMU does. They are more rigorous in admissions and arguably in daily classes. They also demand more research & teaching, IMHO, from their professors. And if they ever really get their football program up and running, no amount of ugly chicks is going to sway a kid who can get a more valuable degree from there while playing football than he can at SMU.

So...until SMU's faculty step it up...and until SMU's program turns it up not simply a notch, but to the highest heat on the water heater, we just get to take cold showers. And the pilot light, which the faculty seems to camp out on all the while they [deleted] about athletics and diluted admissions standards, is all we are going to get.

I'm steamed.

The Owls landed Rivals 3-star recruit Kody Emmert today, a 6-6 235 TE from Liberty Hill, TX

He chose the Owls over offers from UH, Colorado State, and Purdue.

At least this one was not in our backyard.

for clarification I thought SMU had offered but I don't see it now so I removed the post. At one time a few months ago he had SMU "high" on his recruiting list.

I kinda doubt it. I was told several months ago that we weren't recruiting a TE this year. We have a logjam at that position, plus I think we got a transfer TE from somewhere (TTech mebbe).

Emmert is going to be played in the Defensive Line for Rice. The Tech TE(do they even have TEs?) might be Austin Michelson (6-2, 223)who I believe left the Tech program and is from Arlington Lamar. He was rated 5.3 out of high school but was a walkon at Tech. At Tech he played FB/H-Back.

sounds like McKinney. Would be nice if we'd use him.
