Went to Centenary Game

Postby OC Mustang » Sun Dec 17, 2006 12:19 am

Guys,

Big10Ponyfan has dubbed me BBI (basketball idiot).
Therefore, in an effort to silence him and see my Ponies play close to where we live, I made the 30 minute trek to Shreveport from Marshall and watched them play.

My recap:
Coach Doherty noticed me there (I was with my wife and two boys); of course, that was easy. There were 200 people there tops, and I was one of perhaps a dozen or so SMU fans. Willingham's family sat next to me. Had an interesting visit with him. Nice family. Mr. Willingham, if you read this, I enjoyed the chat.

Bamba was great. Loved his moves.

Centenary fans like to talk to the opposing players and coaches. Is that normal? And there were so few people there, it was very easy to hear the fans talk to the coach. And Doh could hear them too. Whoof.

For all those who complain about Moody. Shut up. Centenary takes the cake on old, small, and, well, junior high. My high school gym was better than this place.

When the team does defense and takes an aggressive posture with opposing teams, they are downright intimidating...at least to Centenary.
It wore them down, and once the Ponies took a 26 pt lead...they pretty much kept it.

Anyway, I saw a game, and I enjoyed it. Hopefully, I can see one at Moody.

Thanks for representing Pony Nation!

What do you mean "is that normal"? Didn't you ever heckle an opposing coach/bench?

If not, make a roadtrip to Dallas and start doing so. Immediately.

Are the Stangs wearing red or blue, on the road?

We, SMU fans, would never heckle the opposing team. That would be too gauche and downright unfriendly. One likes to think of it as giving the opposing team a few 'pointers" about the finer aspects of the game.

Official attendance 618. Sounds like we had a good representation. Now on to a victory in frogland.

They wore blue on blue...red trim. Nice looking too.
My wife commented that she really like the color palette of the darker blue and deeper red than she did the bright blue and red circa 1991.

And I shall attempt to make some home games.

And no, I really don't heckle the coaches anymore...I used to...even whirled a plastic ball at John Jenkins head in 1992. But today, I watch myself a little more. Two little boys who don't know when to stop, and my behavior becomes license because "daddy did it".

I will feel better and more animated at home.

I'm glad that you went. You knew it was a dead place when I called you in the first half and you could hear and have a normal conversation.

And by the way, your wife shares the BBI tag because of the other name you used to describe something pertaining to the game. And if I hadn't called you on Friday and told you about the game, you would have never known. :P

But anyway, you saw a team that moves the ball well, plays good defense, still needs to be more consistent on offense and has to handle the ball better.

You should think about a CUSA game in January on a Saturday.

We'll make a basketball fan out of you yet.
